#Bookdare books for August

Yes, I KNOW.
It’s September.

Here’s my #bookdares for August though.
Remember, head over to Adam Lehraupt’s blog to find out what the dares are for next month!

The Dare: Read a book featuring a prince or princess
My Pick:
Girls who Rock the World by Amelie Welden and Michelle R. McCann

This one and the one for boys are AWESOME!
Lots of little biographies of amazing teenagers in history!
MG and Teens will love it!

The Dare: Read a book where a character wears glasses.
My Pick:   Miss Brooks Loves Books (and I don’t) by Barbara Bottner, illustrated by Michael Emberley

The main character (the one who doesn’t like books) wears glasses in this one.
I love this book because it shows that there’s a reader in everyone.
You just have to find the book that will appeal to that reader.
I met the author too; she’s very sweet 🙂

The Dare: Read a book featuring a canine.
My Pick:   Dan the Taxi Man by Eric Ode, illustrated by Kent Culotta

This is a fun one!
Dan’s got a dog who’s along for the ride as he picks up the band members.
You can’t resist making the fun musical sounds, and the rollicking rhythm is great!
I had a great poetry battle with Eric, and met Kent. Both awesome guys!

The Dare: Read a book about unlikely friends.
My Pick:   Cowboy and Octopus by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith

Cowboy and Octopus are such wacky friends.
These little stories about two larger than life friends will have you laughing up a storm.
And may leave you craving beans.
I’ve met Jon a few times. Funny character!

The Bonus Dare: Read a book that has baseball in it.
My Pick:             Girl Wonder: A Baseball story told in Nine Innings by Deborah Hopkinson,            illustrated by Terry Widener

Loved this book!
I grew up in a baseball family, but I never know this story.
A born pitcher if I’ve ever known one! Girls and boys will love this!

The Bonus Dare: Close your eyes and grab a book at random from your to read pile
My pick:              Punk Farm by Jarrett J. Krosoczka

I met him at LASCBWI, and he’s hilarious as well as extremely talented.
I’m already a fan of all his other books, but hadn’t read Punk Farm.
You’ll be singing along and reaching for your shades with this book!

The Bonus Dare: Read a book about space or aliens
My Pick:             Geeks, Girls, and Secret Identities by Mike Jung.

This book is so fun!
A group of boys, a superhero, a girl, epic battles, aliens…what else could you want?
Humor? That’s in there too!
I also met Mike at LASCBWI. What a nice and funny guy!

The Bonus Dare: Read a book with a blue cover
My Pick:             The Flying Beaver Brothers and the Evil Penguin Plan by Maxwell Eaton III

Hilarious!
First off, how can you resist a title like that?
Loved this little graphic novel. Very funny and punny and just plain awesome.
Looking forward to more in this series!

Ok, on to next month’s dare.
Remember, if you want to play along, head over to Adam’s Blog!

Until next time,
KE and SS
