5 easy steps to Random Acts of Valentines, with a free printable. Step #5 is guaranteed to be the most fun.

I LOVE Valentine’s Day.
I remember trying to find the PERFECT valentines when I was little.

And my mom,
she would only let us give
ONE conversation heart
with our valentine.

An entire lollipop was WAY TOO MUCH sugar, apparently.
Well, then I spent forever picking
JUST THE RIGHT saying on the heart.

But I loved it.
I still give valentines to my friends,
little cheesy corny ones.

Here are some I made this year, for my co-workers.
We do interactive history programs,
and one features characters from Ancient Civilizations.
I used the characters,
A bit of watercolor,
And my imagination to make these:

From Upper Left to Lower right: Queen Hatshepsut (she had some obelisks erected that are still standing today) Calpurnia (Julius Caesar's 3rd and last wife who had premonitions about his murder) Isis (Egyptian Goddess who tracked down her husband's body parts after he was killed by his evil brother...and her son, Horus is in her arms there) Socrates (He was concerned with questions that were difficult to answer like "What is goodness?")

Upper Left to Lower Right: Romulus (first king of Rome, killed his brother and named the city after himself, hence, Rome) Spartacus (gladiator, used to fighting) Pythagorus (traveled widely for wisdom and truth, Greek Philosopher) Osiris (Egyptian God of the Afterlife, also Lord of Love)

Well, this year, I wanted to do something fun.
Valentines for everyone!

So I came up with the idea:
“Random Acts of Valentines.”

Have you seen those, “Take what you need” pieces of paper?
We have one on our fridge, thanks to a great pen pal!

Take what you need on our fridge. We obviously need lots of things here!

What if I could do the same thing, but with Valentines?
And post them all around town?

Well, I’m going to!
And you can to!

Here’s the 5 easy steps how:

Step 1:  Download the printable valentines in color! CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD

You may not print 15 copies, but if you do, they'll look like this.

Here's what one copy looks like. Note the extra bit of white, which we'll deal with in the next step :)

Step 2: Cut out the extra bit of white and cut in half.
I left room so if I wanted to make copies, some of it would not get cut off.

And the extra white bit is cut off! Success! (And yes, I don't own real scissors. But I do own 5 pairs of kid scissors)

Step 3: Cut slits up the side of the valentines so they are easy to tear off.

Here they are with the cuts made. You'll be able to see where to make them, since this file came straight from my hands, into the computer, no photoshopping at all. I think it's charming like that, plus you can see the fold lines.

Step 4: To make the tearing off part easier, do you own perforation!
Just use a utility knife and cut along the top line, in dashes –  –  –  –  –  -.
I left a small amount of space in between, and it worked wonders!

Use a utility knife or box cutter and make some slits.

Step 5: The best step ever! Decide on a plan, get an accomplice maybe, and set them up!
I live near the ocean, and there’s this great street, East Cliff,
that lots of people walk on!
My boyfriend and I are going to grab some tape and set them up down there,
taping them to the fence along the cliff.
I’m going to put a few in bus stops too.
We’re going to work under the cover of darkness, which is always exciting!

One side, ready to be taken!

Side two, ready for someone to pluck a valentine off the paper!

Or you can just print these out and hand them to people you know.
That’s ok too.
Which is your favorite?

Here's a close up of all of them once I "inked" them, before coloring.

I adore the little ruler.
I think he’s the cutest thing ever!

I’ll let you know how the mission goes,
but I wanted to share them with you in case you wanted to print them out!

What are your plans for Valentine’s Day?
Come back here on the ACTUAL DAY
and look for details on a blind book date giveway!
I’ll be giving away three books.
More details later.

Because right now, I have to cut some valentines!

Until next time,
KE and SS
