Blind Date Book giveaway and Happy Valentine’s Day…what date would you go for?

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!
Easily my favorite holiday!
Since a very young age!

My first valentine?
My first valentine?

I’m dashing off this post after a long day of work;
I was up late last night with the handsome boyfriend,
setting up valentines on light poles and railings and such.
I hope people have taken some of them!

I LOVE the idea of blind book dates.
You learn a little about the book from a description,
but it can be a HUGE surprise
when you find out what you ended up with!

In that spirit,
and in the spirit of giving,
I have three blind date books you could win!
(Well, you can only win one, but you can enter to win all three!)

There’s a rafflecopter drawing set up for each one,
and you can enter each one!

This is a quick turn around…drawing ends the 18th!

Ok, here we go!

  1. I’ve been enjoying my trips to the local library. I often just pick a random book off the shelf. One of the latest was “Hokey Pokey” by Jerry Spinelli. I was familiar with Mr. Spinelli’s work, but had heard mixed reviews on this one. I’ll admit, that at first, it was a difficult book to figure out. The language is not straightforward, shall we say. And the setting is clearly not the world as most of us know it. But I continued and was rewarded. It definitely is not for everyone. But I do believe that the people who didn’t like it, 1)didn’t finish it, and 2)show that they do not have much faith in young readers if they cross a book off their list simply because it is challenging.

    1. Thanks for the review of this one, Chris.
I’ve heard conflicted reviews of it too.
I’ll see if the library has it!

    1. In person critique group? I’m jealous! I have a great one but we’re all over the country. I’d be interested to see how it turns out when you try it!

  2. Book I read on a whim: I’m in the middle of Code Name Verity right now, and it’s sososo good. I wasn’t especially eager to read it, but the audio copy came up at the library, so I checked it out, and now I’m hooked!

    1. I loved that book, though it took me a while to get into it.
I think I ended up reading most of it on a plane, funny enough!

  3. Environmental/ educational book : Organic Manifesto by Maria Rodale. I believe this book is a must read for every high school student because I think it could change the future of food.

  4. I am not that daring when it comes to blind book dates, but you could never go wrong reading a Barbara Kingsolver book.

    1. I agree;
      I LOVED Animal, Vegetable, Miracle.
NEED to read one of her fiction books, though!
I have the latest one on my shelf right now!
      Prodigal Summer 🙂

  5. Kathy Ellen, this is such a sweet way to share the holiday love! As you know, I was a judge for the CYBILS Awards, and yesterday the winners were announced. My favorite in the pic book category did not win. Poor Sophie. So here’s the link to SOPHIE’S SQUASH. http://www.randomhouse.com/book/219388/sophies-squash-by-pat-zietlow-miller
If you haven’t read it, I hope you do and I hope you love it as much as I did.
Oh, so what was the CYBILS fiction PB winner? MR. TIGER GOES WILD. If you read it, don’t tell Sophie. I think she’s feeling sad enough.

    1. I’ve heard a ton about that book, Carol, and haven’t read it yet.
I’ll have to search on the library website!

    1. Thanks, Eric!
I had a lot of fun with those valentines.
It seems every other day something is coming up from your blog…
you’ve been celebrating a lot of birthdays today!
Looks like you’ll have fun with the Dr. Seuss one too!
Hope things are well with you all too 🙂
