Sunday Donut #3

Intro in case you don’t know about the Sunday donut:
(it’s sort of like that chapter at the start of every Babysitter’s Club book that you can skip if you know the world already! If you know, just scroll down to the donut pic. That’s where it gets started!)

Ok, I just had a blast reading my friend Jackie’s blog.
She borrowed something she loved from another blog:
A heart to heart sort of post about life,
as if we were sitting down to have coffee together and just chatting.

Um, I LOVE THAT!
Except I can’t drink coffee.
I mean, I CAN,
but the world is not ready for that.
It would be like this:

So instead I’m going with donut.
I used to be a paper carrier, and we would get donuts EVERY Sunday!
So I’ve sort of been conditioned.
I’ve even got a nice little donut shop within walking distance!

So, imagine that we meet at my house, walk down to get donuts, walk back (chatting the whole while!) and then sit in my kitchen, chatting some more and snacking.

The donut of the day was a little one.

Edit

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I sort of didn’t want a donut today. “WHAT!” is what you are most likely screaming at your computer right now. I know, it’s weird.

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that the reason I didn’t feel like having a donut is because I started a new workout plan. Yes, capoeira is a workout, but I just wanted to jumpstart my fitness after the summer, since it’s, ironically, my most inactive time.  This week, on Monday, I started a program called: The 30 second body. No, you don’t just work out for thirty seconds. You do one exercise for thirty seconds, then another for thirty seconds…there’s a lot of working out and not a lot of resting. It’s kicking my butt! And every time I think of eating something unhealthy I think, “I’m going to have to jump with that tomorrow” (there’s a lot of jumping in this program!) so I’ve sort of had a falling out with junk food. Probably for the best, but I’m sort of sad about it too.

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that it felt so good to get back on a schedule this week. I set goals each day, and reached them! I created a lot of new things and worked on a bunch of stories.

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I had a great time at book club. I’m in an Adults-read-YA book club that meets once a month in San Jose, and I love it. I love reading YA and not having to worry about my books not comparing, since I’m all about those picture books, and perhaps chapter books and middle grade in my writing life.

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that this is late because, as I was typing it, my friend asked me to go surfing, and you never say no to a request like that!

And, lastly, if we were having donuts, I’d tell you that my friends here threw me an EPIC surprise married party. Ok, I suppose it was more like a ladies night to celebrate that I was married and, as one of them said, “There’s no going back!” We had make your own pizza, delicious homemade ice cream, we made art, and we even had a surprise rockstar guest. My friends did a GREAT job, and I had no idea they were throwing me a party. It’s one day later and I still can’t believe how much they did and how much they care. It’s great to have friends like that, isn’t it?

Ok, phew!
Happy Sunday, even though it’s almost Monday!
Thanks for having a donut with me.
Now let me know what’s going on with you!
What are you up to? What’s making your heart sing?
and most importantly, what kind of donut are you eating?

Bye for now,
KE

  1. My current donut if choice is the Boston cream from Harris Teeter. not only are they BIGGER than the ones from DD’s,.but they are also glazed. It’s heaven (Andrew would say it’s disgustingly sweet… just what I like).
I want to write after-work goals this week. One thing I want to accomplish every day after work. I think it’ll help me get things done. And if Andrew complains that he just wants to “hang out” with me, I can point to my schedule. Sorry, dude!

    1. Oh my god Erin this is so good!
      After work goals are great!
Suggestion: can you find even ten minutes in the morning to do a before work goal?
I am sure you get up early.
I am in that boat when I go back to work too.
But doing one little thing in the morning really cheers me up, even about going to work.
Danny knows that I have to go and get things done sometimes…luckily we schedule time to just “hang out”
That’s what these boys get when they marry go-getter crafty girls!

  2. No donuts here either. We did pick up a couple of these mini croissant at Whole Foods tonight, and something we think might be a pretzel croissant.

I’m about 100 pages to go on “Wolf Wilder”. I get upset when I see snarky comments on Goodreads. I try really hard not to read them, but sometimes it happens. A few are saying how boring or how the author took liberties with wolf behavior.

Her writing is just off the charts. She gets blurbs from Phillip Pullman. I don’t think he just passes those out. Ugh! (It makes me even more upset when the reviewer admits they received an advance copy. I mean, yeah for not sugar coating things, but writing a book off because you don’t understand it, is just as bad.)

The guys should be here in the morning to fix the patio. There was a bridge on Interstate 10 that washed away during the same storm in July. It is near the California – Arizona border. They have reopened it, and hope to have it completely fixed by the end of September. The patio is supported by five 10-foot wood beams; the bridge is far more complex. Fingers crossed for it being fixed by Wednesday. The weather should be in the 80s.

Yay for surprise parties! You have such nice friends.

Just FYI. I’m not getting email notifications about your new posts. Not sure what is up.

    1. Hi Chris,

That is a book I haven’t heard of before! I’ll have to check it out.
I always respect books that have writing that’s “off the chart” even if I don’t like the story.
Sounds like you like it though.

Not sure about the email notifications.
I do have to approve your comment, which I haven’t had to do before.
The only thing I changed was stopping some plug-ins; for a while I couldn’t edit my posts in the visual side of things…it was all html! I am going to go back and put those plug-ins in one by one and see if one was a problem.

And yes, surprise parties are the best. Hands down.
