Sunday Donut #5

Intro in case you don’t know about the Sunday donut:
(it’s sort of like that chapter at the start of every Babysitter’s Club book that you can skip if you know the world already! If you know, just scroll down to the donut pic. That’s where it gets started!)

Ok, I just had a blast reading my friend Jackie’s blog.
She borrowed something she loved from another blog:
A heart to heart sort of post about life,
as if we were sitting down to have coffee together and just chatting.

Um, I LOVE THAT!
Except I can’t drink coffee.
I mean, I CAN,
but the world is not ready for that.
It would be like this:

So instead I’m going with donut.
I used to be a paper carrier, and we would get donuts EVERY Sunday!
So I’ve sort of been conditioned.
I’ve even got a nice little donut shop within walking distance!

So, imagine that we meet at my house, walk down to get donuts, walk back (chatting the whole while!) and then sit in my kitchen, chatting some more and snacking.

Here’s today’s donut: Blueberry glazed.

I’ve eaten a little bit but might save little bits of it for the next few days!

If we were having donuts, I‘d tell you that we had a wonderful Labor Day.

Danny was off from school, and I’m not back to work yet, so we played and had fun the whole day. September 7th is also our date-aversary, which Danny thinks is a bit silly to celebrate, but I don’t. I explained to him we don’t have to buy each other anything, and it’s really a celebration of our story starting. He agreed. Plus, we have this framed photo from our first anniversary, and we can’t just have the one. We spent the day playing games (2, because of the two years!) and even went out to eat at one of our favorite places here.

Here’s the project life proof:

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you I started another newsletter on Monday; one about living creatively and having a fun time.

It will be more linked to this blog and my writing career, while the other one will be linked more closely to the stationary stuff I make at Great Mail Day.

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that night we watched Lord Of The Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring, the extended edition!

Danny has all of them on blue ray, and our neighbors and good friends Vicki and Jason wanted to watch them with us. We also invited our ex-housemate Angela and Vicki and Jason’s friend Winter, and had a BLAST! The extended edition is FOUR HOURS LONG but we were all just in awe. It’s been way too long since I’ve seen them, and now I feel like I want to re-read the books!

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that we had an all girls surfing fun fest on Tuesday.

Vicki (my neighbor, remember?) and our friend Liza went out, just down the street from our house. Liza that day had just bought a brand new to her Volkswagen Bug, so we were all excited. Plus it was Liza’s first time out surfing since giving birth to Olivia going on three months ago! We caught some waves and had fun tumbling around in the ocean.

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I’m in ANOTHER book club!

I listen a lot to the SeanWes podcast, and he’s got a membership site that I’m part of too, called the Community. Most of the people there are go-getter entrepreneurs, and a lot of them are designers and artists. At first I thought I had nothing to contribute, until I realized I’m a PRO at books. So I’ve been contributing in that regard.

And I started a bookclub there! We have one personal development book and one business development book on the table each month, and people can read one or both.
This is the personal development book this month; this is the business development book. Should be fun. I love talking books.

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you about my sort of obsession with the project life app.

I was an avid scrapbooker at a very young age (maybe 11 or 12?) and wanted to continue it, but there was something holding me back. Oh yeah, buying all the stuff. I like craft supplies as much as the next person, but my room is filling up.

That’s where the project life app comes in. You can make it all on your phone and then just print out the picture. I spent a lot of time this week catching up on some stuff and creating a bunch of pages. I love how creative you can be, but also that there are limits. I can spend all day, but it’s not spending all day deciding what can go where. It’s getting 10 pages done in a day, like I did Wednesday. And for the record I didn’t spend the whole day; I only spent an hour or two.

Here’s one that I made recently, a mashup of pictures of Danny and I:IMG_2184.JPG

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I started watching my friends’ daughter, Luiza.

Due to an awesome teaching opportunity, her Mom is out of the house, which she normally isn’t. The two older kids are now going to school (they were previously homeschooled) but Luiza is not yet three so she can’t go. Her Dad is also working, but soon her Dad’s Mom will come hang out and watch Luiza. I’m filling in the gap, which I’m happy to do.

Their house is on the way to school for Danny, so he drops me off and picks me up. We have a nice good balance of playing together and me trying to make sure she has “bored” time to discover things on her own. So far so good, and it’s getting me into the rhythm of getting up early and getting me used to feeling tired being around kids again. A good kind of tired, but tired just the same.

Here’s Luiza and I hanging out making art together.

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that my friends Melanie and Papiba had such a fun wedding! There was dancing, singing, playing capoeira, great food, a photo booth, and, most importantly, lots of people I love gathered from all around the country! Weddings are blast!

Here we have Danny and I rocking our Wedding outfits. We’ve worn them to four weddings so far; still going strong!

I made a few things for the wedding: Here’s one, lyrics to the song Falling Slowly:

Finally, if we were having donuts, I’d tell you a few exciting things happened this very Sunday! For one, we finished reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, which means, when we pick up book three we will be going into completely unfamiliar territory for Danny; he’s only seen the first two movies! And while we were out shopping, I discovered something that a friend filled me in about on Facebook:

Rainbow chip is BACK!

Whew!
What a week.
How about you, friends?
Thanks for having a donut with me.
Now let me know what’s going on with you!
What are you up to? What’s making your heart sing?
and most importantly, what kind of donut are you eating?

Until next time, bye for now,
KE

  1. I’d be eating honey cake. Rosh Hashana starts tonight, and I found an amazing recipe. It is still triple digits here though, so that oven isn’t going on.

I am also planning on using my fancy new pan to make root beer short ribs. I got such a deal, I feel like I need to do something extra special.

We have a friend who teaches scrapbooking. She even now has a line with American Crafts. Her name is Shimelle. Also known as Glitter Girl. She started because she wanted to be the voice for scrappers who didn’t have kids because she was also asked why are you here. She did a great piece on her blog about how it is about pretty paper and telling stories.

Finally, canned icing is just wrong. There is no excuse not to make frosting. You don’t even need a stand mixer. Ganache is melted chocolate with a bit of cream. Have you ever been to a restaurant supply store? They carry all kinds of sprinkles and confetti that you can put on a cake. Cheap too.
