Sunday Donut 7

Intro in case you don’t know about the Sunday donut:
(it’s sort of like that chapter at the start of every Babysitter’s Club book that you can skip if you know the world already! If you know, just scroll down to the donut pic. That’s where it gets started!)

Ok, I just had a blast reading my friend Jackie’s blog.
She borrowed something she loved from another blog:
A heart to heart sort of post about life,
as if we were sitting down to have coffee together and just chatting.

Um, I LOVE THAT!
Except I can’t drink coffee.
I mean, I CAN,
but the world is not ready for that.
It would be like this:

So instead I’m going with donut.
I used to be a paper carrier, and we would get donuts EVERY Sunday!
So I’ve sort of been conditioned.
I’ve even got a nice little donut shop within walking distance!

So, imagine that we meet at my house, walk down to get donuts, walk back (chatting the whole while!) and then sit in my kitchen, chatting some more and snacking.

I think the donuts from now on will be the little guys.
I’ve found that just a little bit is enough 🙂

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I had this great idea for the NaNoWriMo fundraiser. You know how I’ve done the Night Of Writing Dangerously the past few years? Well, I’m doing it again this year, and I have a fun giveaway.

This time it’s something that won’t cost me as much as the donation (that sort of happened last year because I was so excited) and it’s something REALLY cool with options for custom ones and it’s something sort of trendy though I’ve always been doing it…

it’s coloring pages of book quotes! I’m so excited to finish up the ten I’ve been working one…hopefully today, and launch them tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest.

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that it’s hard to ride a bike when there’s a kid on the back. I rode around with my little babysitting charge in the back seat and it’s tough to get used to the balance being shifted. But it’s fun too.

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I’m getting better at keeping track of my steps. I bought a Fitbit maybe two months ago, and I’ve been using it on and off for a while. I REALLY like hitting that goal of 10K steps a day though, and hit it a few time this week.

I was even walking while reading! (Sometimes those steps didn’t count though which is weird. I’ll have to look into that.) It’s been fun to get Danny out on some walks with me too. We live so close to the beach and don’t go NEARLY enough. Time to change that.

IIf we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I went back to work this week! Only for two days, but it was work. I had a lot of fun. The classes were GREAT, the teachers were GREAT, everyone was so nice and prepared and sweet.

The best way to get back into doing my line of work, which is two 2.5 hour presentations about history each day at different schools. It’s sort of like being a game show host. It’s fun and exhausting and puts me around about 1200 kids a month.

I was worried I would forget the script (I basically tell the story of California’s history, at least for the 4th graders, for two and a half hours!) but it came right back to me, just like it does every year. I always worry and I’m always fine.

If we were having donuts I’d tell you that I had some good communication with my amazing agent this week. She is a new Mom of the cutest kid POSSIBLE and still has so many ideas about where to take my career and books. Honestly, I love our partnership. I’m really excited to get some new things formatted so she can see 5 or 6 new stories!

If we were having donuts I’d tell you how much I love my Adults read Young Adult book club. I joined over a year ago, or was it two? I’ll have to look back at the notes (I take notes on each book we read) and I just love each and every single person in that group.

I respect their opinions, I love talking books with them, and transitioning into being friends with them in real life. I seriously feel like I will be part of this group forever, and I’m happy about that.

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I got gifted some ARCs from my favorite bookstore! Many more books to be read! It’s cool to be able to read ones that are coming out soon or JUST came out. After I’m done reading them, I’ll probably put them in a Little Free Library, or save them for a Little Free Library Christmas take over 🙂

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I got to hang out with my good friend Kim on Friday for about 5 hours! We chatted a bunch, watched a movie (I thought it was pretty good! Great concept at least!) and she lent me some books on birth/motherhood, things like that.

I am not trying to say anything here, just that we know that’s a path we want to be going down soon, so she lent them to me. It’s always good to see and talk to her; she was one of my first friends, if not THE FIRST that I made in California when I came out here in 2009. I’ve been to Thanksgiving with her family all these years; her family is like family to me too.

Sometimes it’s hard for us to see each other because we get busy, but it’s always great when we finally do find the time.

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that Danny and I got a game in this weekend, a long game that he loves and we don’t get to play that often called Caverna. It’s really really fun. We have to make time for these things, which is really ME making time. I’m the one who always has some craft project to work on, so I’m trying to get better about taking a step back and making time for things that we love doing together.
IMG_2678.JPGIt’s got A LOT of pieces!

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that we love YNAB! We have used it successfully all this month and will continue to use it for October and beyond. We already bought the full version (you can use a trial version for a little over a month I think) and we’re staying on top of it. Or I’m staying on top of it, since that’s my role.

Danny reports to me what he spent, and we sort it into categories. We had a meeting at the end of August and we’ll have another on in a few days to see if we want to make any changes for October.

Even though I’m the one who mainly keeps track of it, it really feels like we’re a team about money now. He’ll ask how much we have left in each category, how much we’re saving, things like that. We really love it.

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that we are going on a fun adventure, up to SF today!
You’ll have to wait until next week to hear how it went though 🙂

Whew!
What a week!

How about you, friends?
Thanks for having a donut with me.
Now let me know what’s going on with you!
What are you up to? What’s making your heart sing?
and most importantly, what kind of donut are you eating?

Until next time, bye for now,
KE
