Behind the Page: If You Want To See A Whale

Note:
This is a behind the scenes look at a coloring page I made for a reward for people who donate to my NaNoWriMo Night of Writing Dangerously fund.

Last week on my lettering blog
I showed you how I laid out this quote.
Today I’m talking about the book that it came from,
IF YOU WANT TO SEE A WHALE.  This book is deceptively simple.
It’s about how to find a whale.
There’s no shortcut though.
You can’t get distracted.
You can’t hurry it along.
Basically, you have to wait.

I love this book because it’s letting kids know at an early age that things take time.
It’s teaching them a little about focus through the fun story,
And the art is wonderful.

My copy is one that I picked up at Kohl’s, when they featured books by the Steads (Erin, the illustrator here, and her husband Philip, an author illustrator) for their Kohls Care campaign.

You can tell the paper is not the same quality as the original, but the story and illustrations are just as beautiful. Keep an eye on Kohl’s Cares; they have this once a year I think and feature different books and plushies created around the characters. It’s a great way to get great books at a reduced price. I like to buy them as gifts for the Little Free Libraries in my area:)

Ok, let me read it to you!
