Sunday Donut #10!

Intro in case you don’t know about the Sunday donut:
(it’s sort of like that chapter at the start of every Babysitter’s Club book that you can skip if you know the world already! If you know, just scroll down to the donut pic. That’s where it gets started!)

Ok, I just had a blast reading my friend Jackie’s blog.
She borrowed something she loved from another blog:
A heart to heart sort of post about life,
as if we were sitting down to have coffee together and just chatting.

Um, I LOVE THAT!
Except I can’t drink coffee.
I mean, I CAN,
but the world is not ready for that.
It would be like this:

So instead I’m going with donut.
I used to be a paper carrier, and we would get donuts EVERY Sunday!
So I’ve sort of been conditioned.
I’ve even got a nice little donut shop within walking distance!

So, imagine that we meet at my house, walk down to get donuts, walk back (chatting the whole while!) and then sit in my kitchen, chatting some more and snacking.

Wow!
I can’t believe I’ve been doing this for ten weeks!
Anyway, here it is!
Today’s donut:  A blueberry glazed.
I’ve got to get to the donut shop earlier;
they’ve been low on donuts when I arrive around noon!   If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I had Monday and Wednesday off this week, and that NEVER happens. I think this may be the first time in seven years that I’ve had two days off in a week.

I made the absolute most of those days; planning out what I wanted to do and even WHEN I wanted to do it! All that extra time REALLY helped with the California reception (more on that later)

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that we had this awesome soup for dinner nearly every night of the week. We made a double batch and loved it each night!

Note to our future selves and anyone else who may want to try it: I would recommend putting the ravioli in each night as opposed to all at once at the start. By the end of the week the ravioli was falling apart! But it was still super awesome.

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I took two notes of cheer walks this week. All that means is that I took some little encouraging notes out with me on a walk; one with Danny and one without.

It was so fun to hide the words around! I always feel like I don’t have time to take a walk, but when I actually do, I feel so much better. I have to remember that in the future.

Love this note!

Nooks are the best for notes!

Don’t!

Love this one in the sunshine!

You really are. Don’t forget it!

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I designed our favors for our CA reception. Some simple magnets. It was really fun to make them!    The first draft. Wanted to keep it simple and fun!The final draft! Did a black and white image and then colored it in Microsoft Paint 🙂 Printed out the images on card stock and used some extra magnet paper I had around. (Yes, I have magnet paper around. It’s pretty much the best thing ever because you can make magnets out of all the things!)

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I went to book club at Bookshop Santa Cruz this week. We’re adults who read YA, and I haven’t been in a while because I was back on the East Coast for the summer and I missed the September meetup. It’s always SO FUN to talk books with people, and these people are very wise and well read. I’m excited about our next month’s read. This month we read this book.

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I’m this was such a fun crazy weekend! First up, a dance party on Friday. Danny is not much of a dancer but knew I was excited, so he came along. He did great during the lesson and ended up having some fun!

Second: California Wedding.
Oh man, what a blast!
We held it in our backyard, and did the setup with some friends. We spent the weekend scrambling around to get everything we needed, and I spent most of Saturday re-writing our wedding ceremony to have it be more of a play and funny re-enactment.

Since we were the only ones at the CA Wedding that were at our NY wedding, we had friends and our friends’ kids jump in and play the parts that our siblings played in our actual wedding. The kids had fun hamming it up.

We had great food (made by a friend)
a great cake (made by a talented 10 year old baker!)
great music (playlist from my phone)
and great times (dancing, walking down to the beach, all the things!)

It was so much fun.
We brought everything back that we borrowed today,
then ended up sharing the leftover food with some friends
while we did loads of laundry at their house
(no tablecloths were harmed in our wedding, but many were stained, and you can’t return borrowed tablecloths with stains!)

It was so fun to celebrate with our CA people,
and for people from various circles to mingle together.
And today is our three month wedding anniversary!

We’re reading from a great little book, called I LIKE YOU.

We are celebrating right now
by thinking about going to bed early!

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you about a sock monkey sighting. Here’s an adorable baby with the sock monkey I made for her before she was born!

Finally, if we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I am not a fan of pumpkin spice anything. I know, it’s hard to make it through Trader Joe’s these days without running into something that has pumpkin in it, but I manage.

I have nothing against the avid pumpkin lovers; I’m just not a fan. I’m hoping the trend has hit its peak and things will calm down; it’s a little bit annoying to see what they stick pumpkin in next. But also a little strange and exciting.

That’s all for this week.

How about you, friends?
Thanks for having a donut with me.
Now let me know what’s going on with you!
What are you up to? What’s making your heart sing?
and most importantly, what kind of donut are you eating?

Until next time, bye for now,
KE

  1. If we were having donuts I hope they were from Mr Holmes Bake House in SF. We popped in there (and at Jane’s on Larkin which is half a block away) and were not disappointed. The donut the day we were there was chocolate filled. It was coated with sugar, and so was I by the time I’d taken the last bite.

We had a great time this week taking a grand tour of the Bay Area. We ate lots of bread (including more than our share of $7 toast) and visited at least half a dozen book shops (and never left empty handed). We stayed at a palace where the aptly named Palace bunnies were surprised with a bouquet of rainbow carrots, thanks to the power of Instagram . (We got some sweets too). The highlight though was definitely your wedding. It was a lovely event with so many great people. You and Danny are definitely loved.

I’d also tell you that we made a slight detour on our way back to LA. We needed to get some answers so yesterday looked like this: 152, 1, 87, 880, 80, 24, 680, 580, 5, 210, 57. I don’t know why I woke up at 5:30. Or how I already have a load of laundry going. But I don’t have jury duty. Need to call at 7pm to see what tomorrow holds.

I will miss days sitting on benches by the beach, reading about Winnie the Pooh’s origin while eating pot de creme. I still cannot believe B added ‘eat pot de creme ‘ to his calendar.
