July 2016 Writing goals: How did I do?

Ok, if you remember correctly,
I made the goal to write for at least 30 minutes everyday in July.

How did I do?
Sort of good?
Is that a thing?

I’ll break it down into “wins” and “could get betters” for the month!

Wins:

I did a lot of revising and writing.

I took a manuscript that I had been struggling with in an entirely new direction!

Attended some author events (one picture book, one YA)
and some bookstore events (HP Festival!)

Read A LOT

worked on Kidlit with KE a little bit (expanding articles on school presentations and editing some previously written stuff)

created a list of resources to make a mini conference

Did not let the fact that I could not go to the SCBWI conference make me too upset

Talked to my editor and finalized my manuscript!

Talked to my freelance project editor and am awaiting revision notes

submitted a revision and got back notes from my agent
wrote down a few new ideas

Got a surprise peptalk from an editor I’ve worked with before reassuring me that my stuff WILL find the right audience, and to continue to just be me.

Organized ALL my books and ended up donating a bunch and selling some to a used bookstore

Could be betters:

I did not write everyday.
I did for the first maybe ten days, but after that,
I sort of let it go.
I don’t know why, honestly, I don’t.
I know things are getting harder with the baby getting bigger and heavier to carry around,
and I concentrated A LOT on getting my office organized.

I need to get better at scheduling, and that’s what I’ll be working on soon!

I could get back to people quicker.
I am still working on some revisions for my agent,
and REALLY want to have more done in terms of finished manuscripts.

I could have read more.
I spent a lot of the month knitting (I’ll have a post on that later!) making a blanket for the baby, but I truly missed reading so much. I’m getting better at it.

I don’t really have any August Goals,
except to keep track of what I do,
because who knows when this baby will come.

All I know is that my world will never be the same.
Sorry if that sounds dramatic but it’s how I’m feeling.

I think I like this format of keeping things up like this;
wins and could be betters.
I’ll keep a running list in my planner for the month.

What about you?
What were your wins?
your could be betters?

Until next time,
Kathy Ellen
