Summer so far.
The middle of July is such a normal time for normal people
but those crazy about life people
those who want to be everything
and do everything
and learn everything
those people like me
well me, let’s just say me
well that’s when it all began.
In the morning there was an assembly in California
graduation
goodbyes
skits, skirts, and sketches
then drinks, cheese, and bread
followed by an airplane ride.
11:50 at night at least I got
the seat by the window.
Some sleep, then the morning
In New Jersey, not happy, waiting
for a flight to Scranton.
To be on the Office as an extra?
No, c’mon now that’s just silly.
To see a best friend get married?
Yeah, that’s more like it.
Arrive. Picked up. Some stuff in the hair
and wedding.
Cornhole, dancing, an entire pig,
and World Cup Soccer.
I’m not upset America.
You tried your hardest.
On the road again this time
up to Plattsburgh, NY
I know you don’t know where that is
but someday you will.
Old room is taken over
with watercolor paper, crayons, sock monkeys and stamps.
Ideas sketched out and tossed all over.
and one fan.
It’s hot in the summer,
hotter than Santa Cruz. Things melt faster. Watercolors dry quicker.
The mission is simple:
whip up a portfolio for a conference.
That’s just 15 pieces of finished art
and two dummies.
No problem.
Oh yeah
also another wedding.
This time the sister, so
that means maid of honor.
Hair cut, car ride,
rehearsal, Sam Adams,
Taboo, yellow dress, necklace.
Mason jars, thumbprint tree, sleeping in the hallway.
Epic pictures, awesome wedding party, and, again and again,
cornhole.
Returning back.
Floor littered with drawings.
A little more than a week left.
Art intensive, with
a side of copying, followed by
a healthy dose of visiting east coast friends.
Hopefully all adds up to:
Happy friends and family,
amazing portfolio submission
sane Kathy Ellen.
Well, as sane as I was when I started.
Wish me luck!
