Every year, well, since 2009 I think, I have made an illustrated guide to the year. There may be a 2008 version. I’ll have to check.
Basically it’s a guide instead of resolutions, and optimally it’s something that I look at every day to keep on track.
Today, when I went over it, I scanned it and outlined the boxes in red, yellow, and green.
Red for: Never did it.
Yellow for: About half the time?
and Green for: Mission accomplished.
So, here’s 2011:
Stats:
29 total illustrations.
6 reds
12 yellows
11 greens.
Reds:
- Stay organized always: That just did not happen. Puttin’ it on for next year (and working on it right now!)
- Play my trumpet more: I did just play it while I was student teaching, but that was the only time all year!
- Work on my French and Portuguese too: Yeah, well, not really any time for that.
- Go on more hikes: Did I think I’d have the time? I like hikes, but…um….not a lot near me.
- Get more of a garden: Epic fail on this one, though I did try for a bit. Getting little plants and growing sprouts next year.
- Go to my nook and read more an relax: I did that some, but not really .I stayed pretty holed up in that little shed I used to live in.
Yellows:
- Get my sleep and stay healthy: Pretty much did that, though sometimes didn’t sleep due to crafting or excitement.
- Find fun cheap things to do and to them: Most of the time…I could afford to be more social, but I’m busy with school!
- Pay off all credit card debt: Getting better, though just had to charge some stuff for my car…..
- Don’t watch as much tv on netflix: Getting better. I think I mostly just watch now when I’m on vacation or when I’m crafting.
- Keep in touch more: I think I was ok with that, but I sense some improvement with the real life letter project.
- Be more patient at capoeira: I’m still a bit impatient at times, but capoeira is a challenge for me, and I like that challenge, so I predict a green next year!
- Keep my place organized: Yeah, not all the time, but I’m always thinking about it, and that’s why it got a yellow!
- Budget spending: Did better at keeping track. Could do even better though.
- Eat better: Most of time time, though I just ate a bag of chips before typing this…..
- Keep updating blogs….hmmm….
- Be calmer and talk less: I find this one really funny. But I think I’m doing it?
- Pay all bills on time: Um, kinda, mostly. I think I’ve only been late a few times.
Greens:
- Continue to be a good student: Yes, into my third year of Waldorf Teacher Training.
- Keep loving my boyfriend: Yes, I did a great job with this, even though he became my ex very early on in the year. I did a good job with the break up and some craziness that followed by staying true to being a nice, kind, caring person, and not falling into being a bitter, hate-filled person like people thought I should be. We’re still friends, so, green.
- Dance more: HECK YEAH!
- Get more books from the library: I think I read more than 400 books this year, and most of them were from the library. I volunteered too.
- Call Mom and Dad more: Success on this one.
- Bike a lot: When I lived in Santa Cruz I biked all the time. Now I don’t so much, but that could change.
- Be more reserved at work and keep some energy: Doing very well on this.
- Don’t take so many pictures: I have not let my life be ruled by the pictures I could be taking. Win.
- Keep crafting but be honest about why I do it: I think this is a great success. I’ve been making many things for people and not caring whether it is something I can sell or not. I started an etsy site for my prints and haven’t gone too crazy yet and made a few sales.
- Keep reading lots of books and working on writing: Done! Critique group, reading tons of books, SCBWI conference…awesome!
- Think about committing, don’t overcommit!: Doing so much better at this, and really thought before saying yes, so, WIN!
So, next year I want to have more greens and NO REDS!
That being said, I’m off to draft up 2012.
Hope everyone has a Safe and happy New Year!
