Donut Dash, Episode 8: The final showdown.

Ok, so not SUCH a final showdown, but showdown enough.
Today is the day that I
ACTUALLY RAN

3.2 miles
IN A SUMO SUIT

For the first time
in my life.

DONUT DASH!!!

I was going to just go into it blind tomorrow (I’m SOOO glad I didn’t, you’ll see what I mean soon)
but I decided to do a test run. Yup. Literally and figuratively.

So I suited up! (Barney from How I met your Mother would be SOOO proud of me!)
And started running.

Where was I running in said Sumo Suit?
At my Dad’s.

He has this long driveway  that you can’t see from the road.
I ran six laps of the driveway while pictures were being snapped of me
(my sister and brother-in-law? Professional Photographers!)
but stopped after the six because one of the seams in the suit was hitting and hurting the back of my knee.

Shortly after, bro-in-law arrives home and we get out on of those rolling things
(you know, it rolls and tells you how far you’ve been….) and we figure out that, in my six laps, I ran 1.912 miles.

We crunched the numbers and figured out that I needed to run 4 more laps plus a tad bit extra to hit that 3.2 mile mark.

So, I ace-bandaged-up,
put on longer pants,
then RE-sumo-suited-up.

Oh yeah, it was kind of raining too.
Not stoppin’ me though 🙂

So at the end of it all, I ran
3.2 miles in
A SUMO SUIT
in
33 minutes and 17 seconds,
at a 10:24 mile rate.

I wasn’t even really out of breath, and I think I’ll try to be faster tomorrow.
The problem is the suit, obviously.
I can’t really move my arms back that much, or move my legs up that much.
But it will be fun either way.

Speaking of fun, I searched online to try to find a “good” mile time for my age group and found this on a LiveStrong site:

Ages 27 through 31

As individuals get older, their physical fitness levels tend to diminish. This is the case when the age group is looked at as a unit, but it does not pertain to individuals who may be in much better condition as they get older because they make a commitment to exercise and live a healthier lifestyle. A runner who is 27 to 31 and can run a mile in 6:39 or better is in the top 1 percent for the age group. Runners who can finish a 1-mile run in 8:56 are in the top 50 percent for the age group.

My one mile is about 8:30 right now, probably faster if I just ran one mile.
Top 50 percent?
Hey, after running for 7 days, I’ll take it.

I’m really excited about tomorrow.
Unfortunately the professional photographers can’t be there, but hopefully my Mom will be able to snap some pictures.

Either way, it’s going to be EPIC!
or, as Barney would say…

Legend…
wait for it…
hope you’re not lactose-intolerant…
DARY!
