Reading Roundup 2013, Week 9!

Ok, seriously this was a SAD WEEK.
Reading-wise I mean!
BUT I CAN EXPLAIN!
Reading last week

First, let’s talk about the two books I DID read this week:

Of course I HAD to read Insurgent.
I LOVED Divergent.
I ate this up!
Can’t wait for the next book.
This is a great series, and you look very impressive when you are reading the book, since it’s so long.

And Keeper of the Lost Cities?
Loved this one too.
The world is VERY COOL.
I think a blurb on the back describes it as:
Alice in Wonderland MEETS Harry Potter MEETS Lord of the Rings.
There’s magic, and elves, and a great character, Sophie, to take us through all of it.
There’s tons of surprises and this book feels like a good first bite of a cake you know you’re going to love!
MORE books are coming!

Oh, AND we met Shannon Messenger.
But I’ll let Singe Singe tell that story in the forthcoming:
How to survive a conference by Singe Singe
blog post.

Yes, this week I was quite busy getting ready for the
Andrea Brown Literary Agency Big Sur Conference!

I spent most of my week working and playing capoeira (as usual)
but any other time I could spare I was
at Fed Ex making copies,
or packing,
or talking over stories with friends.

Ok, there’s only a small tiny little lie in there.
Thursday afternoon,
as I was editing manuscripts and getting ready to go to bookclub,
my housemate comes in and asks,

“Hey…surf?”
How could I say no?
I dropped what I was doing and had my best surf session to date!
I caught 4 waves.

The first one I caught on fear of death
(it looked so big that I kept paddling, hoping it wouldn’t crash ON me)
and just rode to the shore on my belly.

The other three I actually stood up on.
One of them I even turned my board and surfed like the real people surf,
going along the wave and turning.

IT WAS SO COOL
and so totally worth almost being late for bookclub,
then having to hang out at Fed Ex
AND pack late Thursday night.

ANYWAY the conference was amazing and just what I needed.
I still haven’t recovered from how fun and tiring it was,
so, like I said, Singe Singe will give you a little preview soon.

I’m hoping to read more than 2 books next week!
I will, once I get back on my regular schedule.

Also, I’m going to try to fling some food in Marcie Colleen’s awesome Food Fight contest!

I tried to write a story, but, as most things are nowadays, this one kept going and was at 2,000 words before I decided I was going to store it away and maybe use it as a MG novel someday.

Anyway, what did you all read this week?
I need some picture book recommendations so I can up this count!

Enthusiastically yours,
KE and Singe Singe

  1. March always seems to be busy. Why is that? Even though you didn’t read much it does sound like you had a productive week!

We have been reading Peter H. Reynolds books and Chris Van Dusen books — preparing for birthdays. We really like SKY COLOR by Peter H. Reynolds, LITTLE BOY by Alison McGee illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds, and also SOMEDAY by McGee and Reynolds.

Our favorite Chris Van Dusen book was KING HUGO’s HUGE EGO.

Until next week! Have a good one…sorry I am so late to this one.

    1. I don’t know why March is so busy, but I agree! It’s going fast!

I LOVE Peter H. Reynolds books.
And I LOVED King Hugo’s Huge Ego…I read it in a bookstore a while back.
Loved both your blogposts on their birthdays too!
