Yes, it’s true.
This post is actually ON TIME!
But I have to hurry; I have to make ice cream for a friend’s birthday tomorrow and dash off to capoeira!
This week was a good reading week!
And pretty fun week in books.
I met Jon Klassen again,
And Daniel Handler, who had to step in for Lemony Snicket, because he couldn’t make it!
They were touring and promoting “The Dark”
So here’s what I read this week:
This one is super cool.
This weekend there was a surf competition in my neighborhood, so each day we meandered down there,
in the sun,
to watch the surfers.
I saw this guy signing books,
and it was FROSTY!
(Have you seen the movie, Chasing Mavericks?)
if not, google: Jay Moriarity, and check it out.
He’s kind of a big deal.
And his story’s really good! These three I read in a library at a school I was at this week.
Hey, if I’m gonna be there early, I may as well read some books! These three each have a sort of magical feel to them.
Especially the Man in the Moon!
Miss Maple’s Seeds has a nature kind of magic,
and I remember getting a copy of A tree is Nice when I was a kid. I LOVED IT!
And these two are more like poetry.
Like Pickle Juice is written in verse, with an 8 year old main character. Pretty fun.
Twelve kinds of ice is like a love story to ice.
Even if you didn’t grow up skating (I grew up around ice, but did not skate…)
It’s still super sweet!
The language is very lyrical,
and the pictures are amazing.
This short little book packs a punch of awesome.
Oh also, FORGOT a picture of:
Dead End in Norvelt,
which I listened to.
Coming soon:
the posts I promised last time:
World Book Night,
Stephan Pastis,
And now Jon and Lemony/ Daniel!
I won’t post that one until I do the other two,
so that will get me in gear, because, TRUST ME,
you’re gonna die of laughter when I get to that last post.
Until next time, we’re workin’ on those posts!
KE and SS
You read many books I really enjoy (i.e. Man in the Moon, Tree is Nice). We spent the week reading books by Boris Kulikov — love his illustrations!
I absolutely love May! Lots of great author birthdays — just read MUNCHA! MUNCHA! MUNCHA! by Candace Fleming to my youngest son for the first time! He loved it.
Looking forward to your posts! Hope you have a good week!
Thanks again for the photo for my kiddos! So Awesome!
