Talk about Books: Journey

Have you ever wanted to play, but had no one to play with?
Other kids are off playing with each other.
Mom and Dad are busy with work stuff.
Your sister’s busy too and has no time to play with you.

Well, if you’re the girl in Aaron Becker‘s book Journey, then you discover your magical red crayon (the cat was sleeping on it the whole time!) and you draw yourself a door into another land.

The land is magical and, with the help of your crayon, you can navigate it.
Until you save a lovely purple bird and you are captured,
put in a cage while your crayon falls through the sky.

What will happen?
Will you get back?
And will the real world be the same when you get back to it?

I LOVED the art in this book.
WOW is all I can say. So detailed, so imaginative. And I’m sure very time consuming.
There’s something about holding a book in your hands that you KNOW the illustrator has spent do much time on. This book is wordless but tells such a powerful story. I think any kid or grownup would be inspired to dream up their own worlds after reading this book. I loved the ending too.
