This summer I was at a gathering at my sister’s house.
Someone suggested we do the states quiz.
A few minutes later, my sister comes running out of her house
with pencils and blank maps of the US.
Then, for five minutes, 15 or so of us started to fill them in.
I only missed one (darn Missouri!)
but fared well compared to some other people.
I won’t share all the comical mistakes people made,
but there was one concerning Hawaii being mistaken for another island completely,
that’s not even part of the U.S.
On of my friends got creative.
He didn’t know many of the states in the middle,
so he circled them all and wrote, “Middle America.”
I told him MAYBE we would have given him credit if he wrote Louisiana Purchase.
Needless to say, I should probably be getting this book for all of them for Christmas!

Oh man do I love all the puns in this book!
It makes learning geography SO FUN!
I love that each state has a distinct voice too!
Amazing illustrations…you’ll have to look closely to be able to see everything that’s packed into each spread!
I love how there’s the part about teaching about the states, but also that theme of “the grass is always greener…”
It’s funny and informative and colorful…what else could you ask for?
Learns:
Let something talk that usually doesn’t….states speaking=genius!
Go wacky and punny…there’s always something fun in that!
What did you read today?
Ok, so I looked at the people who are contributing to the spreadsheet and it looks like the people who are contributing the most are:
Lisa,
Lily,
Chris,
and Eric.
And I just so happen to have FOUR picture books to give away!
So, you’ll each get one!
I’ve numbered them.
First person to comment with that number gets it!
So pick a number 1-4.
I’ll reveal what’s behind each numbered door tomorrow,
but I’ll tell you this right now: All FOUR books are signed!
Thank you guys so much for reading along with me this year!
I’ve got more reflections on the process tomorrow, along with the big reveal!
See you then,
KE
I’ll go with 3.
Thanks for doing this challenge. I was right there with you all month, even though I didn’t post each day.
My kids highly recommend the SCRAMBLED STATES card game!
Happy Halloween!
Oh….Jenkin picks 2!
That sounds fun. And, good pick, Jenkin!
