Sunday Donut 16

Intro in case you don’t know about the Sunday donut:
(it’s sort of like that chapter at the start of every Babysitter’s Club book that you can skip if you know the world already! If you know, just scroll down to the donut pic. That’s where it gets started!)

Ok, I just had a blast reading my friend Jackie’s blog.
She borrowed something she loved from another blog:
A heart to heart sort of post about life,
as if we were sitting down to have coffee together and just chatting.

Um, I LOVE THAT!
Except I can’t drink coffee.
I mean, I CAN,
but the world is not ready for that.
It would be like this:

So instead I’m going with donut.
I used to be a paper carrier, and we would get donuts EVERY Sunday!
So I’ve sort of been conditioned.
I’ve even got a nice little donut shop within walking distance!

So, imagine that we meet at my house, walk down to get donuts, walk back (chatting the whole while!) and then sit in my kitchen, chatting some more and snacking.  This is my donut for today, a mini glazed. I even brought mini donuts to work. Because why not share? And yes, that IS a brand new Star Wars shirt I’m wearing 🙂 I would link it for you but it doesn’t exist on the internet. But it existed at my Target store.

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I worked at the French American school on Tuesday, which was awesome, because I was working in the library and got to see the companies that publish a bunch of French books for kids.

I can speak and read French, and am always looking for books. I got quite a few resources.
In case you’re interested, they are :
Didier Jeunesse, Bergeron/Quintin Sampar,
Mijade, Bayard Poche, and J’aime Lire.

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I got a great system for batching and scheduling my social media stuff!

It’s called: a piece of paper. That’s right. I wrote down all the stuff I needed to do, and highlighted it when it was done. I have most things scheduled out three weeks in advance!

Even things like this, or the Friday Book report, I’ve worked on. Yes, I can’t schedule the content out ahead of time, but I can get the posts ready. I can put in the same text that I always use to start and end each post. Just doing that has made me feel less overwhelmed about it.

I love writing these posts and never want to stop, so getting a little bit ahead of the game helps. I worked on most of that stuff Wednesday, since I didn’t have work but Danny had school, so I had the whole day to work on stuff!
If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I gave this game, Rivals of Catan, another chance.

It’s a two player version of the game that Danny and I love, called Settlers of Catan. He tried to teach me it one night a while ago when I was really tired and that didn’t go well. As you can imagine, my first impression of the game was not that great, but I decided to suck it up and try again. It turns out I really liked the game, and I was really good at it! So yay for keeping an open mind.

Just a few of the cards. It looks like a lot but it’s really easy.

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that we had a GREAT Thanksgiving! I made pages for our annual Thanksgiving Journal, we played LOTS of games (ok just a few, but still, it felt like lots! We played this one, this one, and this one), ate great food, hung out with fun friends, and ate LOTS of pie. Well, I ate lots of pie.

Pages I made for the Thanksgiving journal. Each year anyone who attends Thanksgiving answers the prompts. It’s fun to look back over the years (this is the 4th year of the book tradition!)

Playing Taboo

Getting ready to use the squeaker if the wrong word is said!

Selfie in the sunshine!

Listening intently!

I went for three slices of pie.

I finished nearly everything!

Danny went for pecan only.

He finished a good amount too!

Playing Citadels!

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I got the job at Hicklebee’s! I’m a book wrapper, y’all! I have to admit I was a little bit nervous about the ribbon curling part, since I never really used ribbon on anything I ever wrapped before. I am proud to report I got the hang out it and I’m LOVING it!

I’m right up at the front of the store so I can greet people who come in and help them find things. I helped one guy find out that we didn’t have Settlers of Catan, but that he needs it in his life, I helped a woman find her husband (I’m up on this sort of stage so I have a good vantage point!) and I’ve helped many people find books they’re looking for.

PLUS I get to wrap everything and curl ribbon and see what people bought!

My view from the wrap station

So many ribbons!

That day when I actually matched the wrapping paper!

BookBook of the month wrapping. This kept me busy today!

The first report for #confessionsofabookwrapper is in: A lot of people are getting coloring books. Other than that, I wrapped A LOT of Middle Grade, Chapter Books, and Board Books. A few picture books and a few toys too. I worked Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and will continue to work a few days a week until Christmas Day. I’m already having so much fun!

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you about this epic haul I got for #SmallBizSaturday. Working at Hicklebee’s means I get a bit of a discount, and some of these books were on sale, but SERIOUSLY. All of these books for only 50 dollars!

What a steal! Look for them coming up soon in some Friday Book Reports.

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that Danny did all the decorating while I was gone today. Our mini tree is up, and so are the Christmas lights. He’s strung them all around our house (on the inside) and it looks great. I’m really happy that he loves doing that stuff; it’s starting to feel like Christmas already!

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I was a bit worried about taking the Hicklebee’s job. I was worried that it would tire me out and take time away from other things I need to do. Well, guess what? Wrapping stuff and being around awesome book people does NOT tire me out! It energizes me! Yesterday I came home and edited my two picture book manuscripts that I wanted to get to my agent by the end of this weekend. I know, it’s pretty awesome.

If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I still need to validate my NaNoWriMo word count. I went a bit past 50K, but I sort of stopped writing there for a while when I finished. At first I felt bad about it, but now I don’t. I was working really hard. I needed a break. And I know for a fact that it’s better when I leave my writing alone for a bit, because I come back with a fresh mind. I’ll tackle all that stuff I wrote in a while; for now it’s all about revising and finessing some picture book manuscripts.

How about you, friends?
Thanks for having a donut with me.
Now let me know what’s going on with you!
What are you up to? What’s making your heart sing?
and most importantly, what kind of donut are you eating?

Until next time,
bye for now,
KE
