Easily my favorite holiday!
Since a very young age!
I’m dashing off this post after a long day of work;
I was up late last night with the handsome boyfriend,
setting up valentines on light poles and railings and such.
I hope people have taken some of them!

I LOVE the idea of blind book dates.
You learn a little about the book from a description,
but it can be a HUGE surprise
when you find out what you ended up with!
In that spirit,

I’ve been enjoying my trips to the local library. I often just pick a random book off the shelf. One of the latest was “Hokey Pokey” by Jerry Spinelli. I was familiar with Mr. Spinelli’s work, but had heard mixed reviews on this one. I’ll admit, that at first, it was a difficult book to figure out. The language is not straightforward, shall we say. And the setting is clearly not the world as most of us know it. But I continued and was rewarded. It definitely is not for everyone. But I do believe that the people who didn’t like it, 1)didn’t finish it, and 2)show that they do not have much faith in young readers if they cross a book off their list simply because it is challenging.

What a fun idea! I’m going to try and incorporate this idea into something for my newly forming in-person critique group. How fun!
In person critique group? I’m jealous! I have a great one but we’re all over the country. I’d be interested to see how it turns out when you try it!
Book I read on a whim: I’m in the middle of Code Name Verity right now, and it’s sososo good. I wasn’t especially eager to read it, but the audio copy came up at the library, so I checked it out, and now I’m hooked!
I loved that book, though it took me a while to get into it.
I think I ended up reading most of it on a plane, funny enough!
I am all ready silly, but every one can use a little bit more silly. How about a children’s book about berries. all kinds of berries. Edible and not so edible.

Environmental/ educational book : Organic Manifesto by Maria Rodale. I believe this book is a must read for every high school student because I think it could change the future of food.

I am not that daring when it comes to blind book dates, but you could never go wrong reading a Barbara Kingsolver book.
