And February is officially finished. Well, you knew that, but reading journal didn’t. Me being so late makes me think of Frog and Toad, where Frog wants to get up from the long winter sleep and Toad is not interested, so Frog just rips a few months off of his calendar. I LOVED that as a kid and thought it would be so awesome to give that try. Maybe someday.
Ok, books!
This book got my attention because of its shape, and I can see why this shape worked in this case! A nice long rectangle of a book with tons of art, just not the right one until the very end!
Second book is by an author that I have had in here, but this is another series of hers. I liked the sparse text and the illustrations, and how they worked together to create a great story!
Third book: Another author already in here, but a different subject matter this time, though it still starts with p!
Fourth book: A lovely take on a story that I love. In fact, I will still pull out a reference to the Brave little tailor sometimes. I’ll say, “Oh yeah, three in one blow, short of seven of course…” It doesn’t matter that I’m talking about jumping, swinging, or carrying apples. I still say it. In fact, I often reference and quote children’s books in my everyday life. I see it as a way to find the people who love children’s books in the fastest way possible. They are the people who smile when everyone else looks at you like you’re a complete weirdo.
Fifth book: Bought at a goodwill. I LOVE this illustration by the way! It was nice to lay out all the muscles of a dinosaur. I wish I could have some dinosaurs come clean for me. Cleaning is a constant battle for me.
So, reading journal books 98-102 are:
Seen Art? by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith
Diary of a Spider by Doreen Cronin, pictures by Harry Bliss
Pig Tale by Helen Oxenbury
The Brave Little Seamstress by Mary Pope Osborne, illustrated by Giselle Potter
and
How do Dinosaurs clean their rooms? by Jane Yolen, illustrated by Mark Teague
Coming up next will be a February recap, then on to March, filled with poetry, picture books and plenty of pictures!
until then, read and write on!
