For school visits
For events
I love school visits and events!
Before staying home to raise my daughter,
I taught interactive history presentations to 4th, 5th, and 6th graders…
about two thousand presentations!
Plus my Mom was a teacher, and I was for a bit too.
Hanging out with kids is one of my favorite things to do!
These are the messages I hope your students walk away with
after hearing me speak:
I want to inspire your students to write their story
and fall in love with reading!

Here’s a peek at my presentation!
Section 1: 25-30 minutes
A quick intro about me and my writing life,
including a peek at my first book I ever wrote (at 5),
then a spirited reading of TA-DA!
where your kids get to use lots of sound effects.
Next I get into how a book is made, including lots of dancing!
When I was a kid, I wanted to know the nuts and the bolts of the book business, because I wanted to be in it!
This presentation is highly interactive and starts with an idea, ends with a finished book, and in between talks about agents, editors, revision, rejection, and more! Plus there’s dancing! This is a fun way to get the wiggles out while also learning and is directed to the students, speaking to them as the writers!
Section 2: 15-20 minutes
I’ll touch on many things in this section.
Your students will:
See revision in action!
I’ll take them behind the scenes and show them examples of how the text of TA-DA! changed from when I sold the book to the finished product, and I’ll show some of it in the illustrations as well!
Be inspired to write!
I’ll lead kids through irresistibile and fun writing prompts that will stretch their imaginations and help them create stories in no time! Then I’ll leave some printables with you to keep the story magic going!
Learn about coming up with ideas! We’ll talk about all the places we can find ideas and chat about some good ones that we’ve had.
Chat books with me! I read a TON of kidlit and we’ll have a chance to chat about books we’ve read recently.
Section 3: (10 minutes)
Q and A time.
I can also make presentations shorter or longer as needed.
I can do up to four presentations a day,
groups big and small; I’m flexible!
You can do one big assembly with the entire school
or make the visit more personal by combining one or two grades
for smaller, more intimate presentations.
While all the aspects of the presentation work with a smaller group,
some parts don’t work as well with bigger groups.
We can talk about that when you contact me!
I can meet with kids from preschool to 8th grade.
I’m on the West Coast (Bay Area, California)
and frequently make visits to the East Coast to see family
(Northern and Central NY).
Travel outside those areas is possible, depending on the time of year.
Sponsors are responsible for
the presentation fee,
transportation (flight, rental car, and/or mileage),
lodging if needed,
and a meal if I’m at your school all day/over lunchtime.
A great way to do that is to have an author lunch
with a group of kids.
I will also be available to sign copies of TA-DA! for students
and will work with you to find a great bookstore
to pre-order them from.
Though it’s not necessary to have books available for sale when I come to your school, I think giving the students an opportunity to have a signed book is such a special thing.
When I was a kid a coloring book artist came to my school and I got a signed copy of her book. That was the only signed book I owned until I was an adult and can still remember that day vividly. Giving your students the chance to make memories like that is such a great gift!

Not a school? No worries!
I’m available for events too!

Visit via Skype or Google Hangouts!
If I can’t make it there in person I can be there virtually!
Virtual visits are usually 20-30 minutes long and cover sections 1 and 3 above:
(reading my book and talking about my early reading life and Q and A)
Email me at kathyellendavis AT gmail DOT com to see if I’m available!
If you’re looking for something similar to my in person visits via Skype, that is possible for a larger fee.
Thanks for your interest and I look forward to working with you to make a great visit/event happen!
