Introducing….Reading journal! FAQs.

Who is reading  journal?
Why, he’s the smartest little journal I know.
He knows about all the books I read, and he keeps them organized for me.
He remembers what I like about each of them, and  includes many other things, including pictures!

How do you pick your books for reading  journal?
Well, I started with a list, then went to the library and just started picking up books! I take recommendations, so if you think there is something I should be reading, let me know!  Sometimes I hear of good books on NPR, see titles in free magazines for parents (yes, even though I don’t have a child I pick those up….), or run to gobble up all the books I can when I find an awesome author!

Do you put every book that you’ve read in reading  journal?
Yup. I believe he should be well read. Most times I am a bit behind, but as of right now I’m keeping up with it.

So is reading journal like a review?
Um, maybe a little? He’s basically just what I need out of a reading journal.
For each entry he keeps track of:

  • Title
  • Author and illustrator
  • Publisher and date of publication
  • First and last line…I’ve always been fascinated with how people start and end stories.
  • How long it takes to read aloud if it’s a picture book…..I read the picture books and record them for my reference, because I know there will be a time when I won’t have them all around!
  • How many pages it is, if it’s a novel.

The rest is just my reaction. Always includes a picture and a lot of color. I write down what I liked about the book. May not really be a review, but I’m working on a podcast idea that could give you more details about the book!

So are you an artist?
Hmm. No comment? I can’t say that my pictures look exactly like the ones in the books that reading journal is devouring, but I try my best.

Cool. So how do I search what books reading  journal contains?
Just head over to the category bar and click through. There are categories for picture books, newbery books, easy readers, chapter books (anything from an early reader to a young adult novel), and grown up books, which can also be for kids, but will probably mostly be for adults.

How can I get the books that I read about in reading journal?
I will include links to the books. When possible, I will link to the author’s website or blog, that way you can read more about the book and the author and then go down to your neighborhood bookstore and buy the book! (Or library, and borrow it!)

When do we get to meet reading  journal?
Very soon! Right now a cable for the printer is missing, but as soon as it is found, reading journal will be up here for you to see! You’ll be so excited to meet him!!
