Whew!
Summer school is officially done, and now I can officially be a Waldorf teacher!
A very fun and busy four weeks of work, work, AND MORE WORK!
but also got some good drawing time in (I’ll scan some of my favorites from my notebook soon!) and a few new writing ideas, as well as the opportunity to write song parodies and skits for my class.
One of my teachers asked me to come up with something before we ate snack to announce our recitation of the Odyssey at lunch time (oh yeah, did I mention we each memorized about 30 lines of the Odyssey and worked with it in hexameter? Yup!)
That gave me exactly an hour.
I had it done in about 10 minutes, because, honestly, I already am working on that stuff in my head, all the time.
I whipped up 8 lines of hexameter and it went over well.
ANYWAY…
I have to give a shoutout to my housemates, who probably don’t even read this blog, but they are getting a shout out anyway for always having something epic and amazing for me to participate in when I came back on the weekend, and a special thanks for making a little bit of room on the Bastille Day celebration for a bit of graduation celebration as well.
Ok.
Done.
And now, illustrating.
I am having a lot of fun with it this year.
I think I took it way too seriously last year, and, as a result, I remember being really stressed through the whole process.
This year, I haven’t stressed at all!
I popped on some pandora and pulled out a sketchbook and sketched for three hours a few days ago.
Then I went back through my various sketchbooks (seriously, does anyone else have about 10 different sketchbooks that are half full?) and made note of what I liked and what I wanted to work on more.
And then I just started working!
This year I’m using watercolors more, as well as some thin-lined markers, cut paper, and crayon.
As of right this very second, I have 8 pieces done!
To be fair, one is just a series of sketches of the same character, but, hey, I’m using it, so it counts!
A few of the ideas just evolved while I was doing them, which I think is always a good thing.
I am particularly excited about the latest one I finished, watercolor, but just black and white!
And this year I have some ridiculous things in my art pieces.
There’s toast,
giraffes with warm necks,
piggyback rides,
dancing frogs,
plate spinning arachnids,
and much more.
Well, looking at my portfolio is really going to give away the type of person I am.
And I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Ok, have to get back to illustrating now.
Working on my wordless, very simple picture book dummy.
Feeling good about this too.
We’ll see what happens this year at the conference!
Stay tuned for scans soon!
until next time, keep on reading and writing and creating, even though it’s summer! You can do all of those things at the beach you know š

I’m so glad you’re illustrating. I can’t wait to see the scans. š
