Reading Roundup 2013 week 1

Woo-hoo!

Welcome to the reading ROUNDUP!
I know, I should have some graphic with Singe Singe in a cowboy hat.
Maybe by this time next week.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to post what books I’ve been reading.
Mondays was fun, but I think I can handle Tuesdays better.
Plus, it’s nice and clean, since January 1st was a Tuesday.

So, let me remind you.
My goal is to read 1007 picture books this year.
That is…

19.36 books a week.
Let’s round up, shall we, to 20.

Well, this week, I read 64!
Granted, I was on vacation.
Like that?
WAS.

I go back to work today.

41 out of 64 were picture books.
But that also means that 23 weren’t.
ok, there were some graphic novels and comics in there.

If you want to read my reviews, and haikus, head over to GoodReads.
I’ve been doing haiku reviews of books. Pretty fun.

Here’s my top ten for the week:

  1. Wonder by R.J. Palacio…simply extraordinary and everyday all rolled into one.
  2. A Home for Bird by Philip C. Stead…..so dear, heartwarming, simple, and lovely.
  3. The True Meaning of Smekday by Adam Rex….kooky, clever, page-turning fun.
  4. The Incredible Book Eating Boy by Oliver Jeffers…I think the title covers it!
  5. Monsieur Marceau: Actor without Words by Leda Schubert and Gerald DuBois…a beautifully illustrated story that you have to read.
  6. Boot and Shoe by Marla Frazee…again, simple and sweet and so very dear.
  7. The End by David LaRochelle and Richard Egielski…such a fun story structure!
  8. Adéle and Simon by Barbara McClintock….loved looking for Simon’s lost items
  9. Old MacDonald had a Woodshop by Lisa Schulman and Ashley Wolff…another fun take on OldMacdonald, and a clever ending
  10. I like you by Sandol Stoddard Warburgh and Jacqueline Chwast….the best gift book ever. Read it.

Here’s all the books I read:

What have you all been reading?
I’ve been trying to look out for titles from 31 in 31 when I go to the library.
I think I read all the Oliver Jeffers ones this week,
and thought of Marcie Colleen, who read a bunch of his for 31 in 31
and kept telling me that she thought I’d like him.

Until next time, we’re enthusiastically yours,
KE and Singe Singe
