Resource Recommendations #1: How to Promote your Children’s Book by Katie Davis

This year one of my goals was to work at writing like it was my job.
The two part goal was:

Write (or revise) everyday
and read from a book on writing or the creative process everyday.

I’m happy to report I’ve been doing both, with great success,
and I’ve been wanting to blog about the books for a while now,
so here’s the first!

You probably know Katie Davis from her awesome podcast, Brain Burps About Books.
If not, go there!
She talks with lots of movers and shakers in the kidlit business,
as well as experts in business and marketing.
It’s a treasure trove of free information.

Well, get excited for this book!
It’s the new and improved
How to Promote your Children’s book: Tips, Tricks, and Secrets to create a Bestseller!

5 things I loved about this book:

Bite size chapters.

Let’s face it.
Writers are busy people!
Sometimes we’re busy reading, or writing, or working our other job.
Sometimes we can’t handle long chapters.

I LOVE that these chapters are small and easy to digest.
This allows you to read the book the pace you need to.

Calls to action!

After each chapter, there’s a little call to action.
Nothing big, not HOMEWORK really,
just a little something you can do to use the information that you just learned.
It’s a great way to take a small step and not feel overwhelmed.

Updates!

I love the section at the beginning,
detailing which parts of the book were updated.

There are some great interviews about Pinterest,
Teacher’s Guides,
and many more updated marketing strategies!

I love that Katie sought out experts to interview, and I loved reading about success stories.

The conversational tone.

I love the tone of this book.
No one’s yelling, “HEY! GET ON FACEBOOK! AND TWITTER! AND EVERYWHERE!”

It’s more like a conversation, like,
“Hey, have you thought about getting on Twitter? I’ve done it and I really like it. Here’s a whole bunch of info to help you. Let me know if you need anything else to get started.”

It’s like you’re just sitting around in some café,
talking promotion and marketing with Katie.
By the end of the book, you feel like you’re friends!

Packed with great ideas that don’t make you come off as pushy!

I love that Katie emphasizes the “social” aspect of social media,
and making connections.

She has so many ways for you to connect audiences with your book in this book,
and none of them feel pushy.

Now, disclaimer:
I did receive a review copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
Also, though we have VERY similar names,
we’re not related 🙂

Another disclaimer:
I love this book so much that I’m buying a copy for me,
AND maybe a copy for you!

So, enter and share on, people!
Until next time,
