31 in 31 Day 12: The Scraps Book

31 in 31 picI love collaging.
I have a scrapbook that I made as a kid,
with pictures of my siblings and everything!
I was always writing, always creating, always everything.
I thank my parents for setting be up to be the creative person that I am today, I
and my siblings for putting up with me 🙂
I LOVED this book!
It’s an insider’s view at one of the greatest kidlit artists!

This book really is like a scrapbook! The pages are filled with sketches from some of the books she’s illustrated, pictures, paper, everything!

It’s such a behind the scenes look at the process of being an artist. There are examples of early sketches, picture book layouts, everything!

I love the voice that Lois uses in this book. She speaks in simple sentences, and she sounds like she’s a child telling this story. I think kids will really be able to relate to that.

I love the call to action at the end! Actually, this whole book is a call to action. It will make you want to get up and make some art! I think kids would LOVE it, and grownup kids too of course!

This is also a great way to learn about all her other books, since she features art from many of them in this story.

Learns:

Done the right way, 72 pages DOES NOT feel long!

The behind the scenes stuff is cool! You may not be able to make a book out of it just yet (I think you’ve got to be pretty famous first?) but it works wonders for blog posts!

Surrounding kids with art supplies may just help them discover a love of art!

Have you seen this one?
I think this one will inspire kids of all ages to get out the scissors and start creating!
What did you read today?

See you tomorrow!
