31 in 31 Day 19: Tap Tap Boom Boom

31 in 31 picI LOVE storms.
Unfortunately, California doesn’t get them that often,
so I’m a bit spoiled.

I do remember one time,
in Northern NY,
watching my brother’s baseball game,
when I was on the edge of the rain.
I stood right behind the backstop and stretched out like a
non-jumping jumping jack.
On one side of me, it was raining.
On the other side, it was not.
It’s probably the coolest rain experience I’ve ever had!

I really liked this book because it talks about rain
AND subways.
I’ve lived in two places
(Boston and San Francisco)
where you could escape the rain by going underground. 🙂

I love this one. It shows you how some of the words are bigger for dramatic effect, the awesome illustration of raindrops, and everyone running to get underground!

Love the mixed media collage style of this one. And how everyone is getting along! Great perspective!

Love all the fun words to say in this one!
Tap, Boom, crackle, slam, helter-skelter…the list goes on and on!

There’s a great rhythm to the text that goes along with the rhythm of the storm.

I feel like you’d have to sing this story like a song!

The illustrations are great. Active, fun, with great perspective and some excellent use of mixed media.

What are some everyday occurrences you can write about?

Find fun words to include in your story that the reader will have a blast saying!

If writing in rhyme, keep it tight and keep it light!

Sorry so late today:
Sunday is the day when things have to get done around here.
Is it the same way at your house?
We always go shopping, plan our meals for the next week, and do tons of chores.

What did you read today?

This week I’m meeting THREE authors (one author illustrator)
but I’ve still got some great books ready to show you.
Two will have info about meeting them!
Stay tuned 🙂

  1. Sunday is usually our shopping day too. We also went to the library and found a cool new waffle place along the way.

It is hard to believe that just last Sunday I met Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snicket). I am hoping to meet Jon Klassen again during his LA leg of his tour (I plan to talk to him about coleslaw). They were both supposed to come to this sweet little bookshop on the outskirts of LA (which has since sadly closed), but the event got canceled and never rescheduled.
