50 Word Fiction Contest: December

Hey guys!
You know me, can’t resist a contest.
So when I saw this one on Facebook (Thanks, Emily!)
I couldn’t resist.

It’s put on by the Scottish Book Trust.
Each month, there’s a prompt or a picture to get you going.
Find out more about the idea here.

This month, it was this photo:

The second I saw it,
my eyes were drawn to that one bright coat.
What was the story behind it?
And how could I tell that story in just 50 words?

Here’s my attempt:

Talla saw it first.
“Mama, my old coat!”
Pink and bursting with swirls of color,
the coat sparkled against
the greys and browns everyone else wore.
Talla loved that coat.
She didn’t want me to donate it.
I prepared for the worst.
Instead, she said,
“I bet she’s really warm.”

It was so fun to write only 50 words!
I’m going to keep an eye on this contest each month 🙂
