Intro in case you don’t know about the Sunday donut:
(it’s sort of like that chapter at the start of every Babysitter’s Club book that you can skip if you know the world already! If you know, just scroll down to the donut pic. That’s where it gets started!)
Ok, I just had a blast reading my friend Jackie’s blog.
She borrowed something she loved from another blog:
A heart to heart sort of post about life,
as if we were sitting down to have coffee together and just chatting.
Um, I LOVE THAT!
Except I can’t drink coffee.
I mean, I CAN,
but the world is not ready for that.
It would be like this:
So instead I’m going with donut.
I used to be a paper carrier, and we would get donuts EVERY Sunday!
So I’ve sort of been conditioned.
I’ve even got a nice little donut shop within walking distance!
So, imagine that we meet at my house, walk down to get donuts, walk back (chatting the whole while!) and then sit in my kitchen, chatting some more and snacking.
You guys, I didn’t have any cash this morning to get a donut from the donut store, so I thought, “I’ll just get a pack of donuts at Target.” Big mistake. They are pretty gross, hence the facial expression. If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I finished our photo advent calendar just in the nick of time!
Here’s a photo of the finished product.
Photos printed off of Instagram by Social Print Studio; and numbers, painting, and twine tying by me. I LOVE doing this every year (well, this is the second year) and Danny and I have fun each day turning a photo over and reviewing our year. Right in our living room so we get to see it each day 🙂
If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I’m working on our Christmas card!
I decided that we are going to stick with the same format each year; a fun game board. I write in what we did each month, and then color it. Color copies are made and mailed out! We are also sending along photostrips to our family members, because they probably want a picture of us. Probably.
The colored one is last year’s; working on this year’s now. And yes, I realized that the drawing of me is missing an arm…just in time!
If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that my hair is really long. No, this is not just an excuse to take a selfie; I have a built in excuse for that. (I send selfies to Danny and he loves them!)
My hair is getting to that point where I usually lose patience with it and cut it short. But I’m not really losing patience with it this year. It’s a bit more wavy and calm when it’s longer, so I think it may be here to stay. We’ll see! Exhibit A. Also, green is TOTALLY my color!
If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that we had an epic Friday night. Danny goes to school in Gilroy, and I just happened to be working there Friday, so we drove down together. After he was done at school we went to Barnes and Noble so I could work on some stuff (Friday Book Report for one!) and then we headed to Monterey to hang out with some of his classmates and play games.
Here’s a photo of some advice I gave a college kid who was telling these people next to him that he was unsure about what to do with his life and stressed about it. I didn’t take any pictures at the game night (I know! Danny was shocked!) but it WAS the first time we hung out with some of the people, so usually I wait a bit before taking pictures of people.
We played this game and I dominated (I usually do; it’s the perfect game for a slightly distracted person with good motor skills!), then this game and I nearly won but it was tricky, and then this game, where the girls were the good guys and we won. We stayed pretty late but had a ton of fun so it was worth it.
If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I am trying to get Danny to start a gaming blog. He knows SO MUCH about games and it would be SO HELPFUL if he would do it, I know it.
But he doesn’t like sharing things on the internet. He DID say that he would help me if I started one, to which I replied, “Oh, sure, I’ll just start ANOTHER blog,” but maybe I’ll do something once a month on here?
We helped three separate families buy cool games at Barnes and Noble just by being there and talking about the games we loved. This weekend I spent A LOT of time researching games to buy Danny too, and games for our little niece and nephew. I’m all about sharing the knowledge; you’ll maybe see a game post or two here or there, so get excited!
Here’s one fun game, the one Danny got at Barnes and Noble (there was a 20% coupon, which he can never resist!). It’s called Blokus, and he really likes it. Luckily I do too.
If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that we are trying to get ahead of the holidays over here. Christmas cards are almost done, which is good, because we still have to write our wedding thank you notes!
We are also ordering some 4×6 prints for everyone as well, so that’s time consuming. I want to get it all done and do fun stuff, but it’s been taking most of the weekend unfortunately.
If we were having donuts, I’d tell you that I’m really excited to do a sort of “pass the present” with my bookclub! They don’t know I’m doing it.
I bought a book and I’m wrapping it, then on the wrapping paper adding some candy and fun stuff, then wrapping that, and repeating for a few layers. The first person takes off the wrapping, then passes the gift to the next person. Each time it comes to you, you get to take ONE thing. I hope it goes over well; there’s a book at the end so it has to, right? I’ll make a post here about how I put it together 🙂
If we were having donuts, I’d tell you I had a full week of work, which is always hard, because it feels like I have so little time to do anything else. I have to remind myself that my job is the thing that allows me to be so creative and not pressure my passions into being my business just yet, so it’s a good thing, but it’s also a tiring thing. This upcoming week is looking pretty full too, but only two more weeks and then two weeks off! You know, light at the end of the tunnel kind of thing.
How about you, friends?
Thanks for having a donut with me.
Now let me know what’s going on with you!
What are you up to? What’s making your heart sing?
and most importantly, what kind of donut are you eating?
Until next time,
bye for now,
KE
If we were having donuts, I’d hope that they would be jelly filled like I could get easily when I was a kid at one of the local Jewish bakeries (tonight was the first night of Chanukah). I keep searching, but nothing comes close. They had granulated sugar on top. Most I’ve seen on the West Coast have powdered sugar.
I am working on my Christmas cards too. So far I’ve carried them to two different hotels with the best of intentions. That means my cards are well traveled, but yet written. I at least have stamps (which I bought at the post office in Foster City because I was going to not be crying at the mailbox on Christmas Eve again).
I could also tell you that I woke up in Rancho Cuchamunga, stopped at home for lunch, and later went to Tustin to do the grocery shopping. I saw the table where we sat and wanted to tell you they got new chairs. I’m not sure why I felt like telling you that.
If you haven’t guessed we are at the tail end of a mattress run so are sort of stay cationing. We have 4 stays to go before the year is out. We hope our next one takes us to the Last Book Store. We haven’t been and it seems like a cool place, so why not?
And yes, green is your color. 🍀
