KE comic: We bought a house!

Okay, we bought a house back in February.
But we’ve been a bit busy since then, so we’re now telling you about it!

Check out this comic to hear about how we were able to buy our first place!

Authenticity is one of my biggest values, and I wanted to celebrate the fact that we got a house but also made it very clear that we would not have been able to do that without some help.

You know we weren’t saving that much money living in California all that time. I shared this on Instagram first and I know that social media is often a highlight reel and even though we’re not supposed to compare, we sometimes do.

I wanted to share the entire story in case anyone is like, “I can’t do it, how could they?” We couldn’t do it without help either!

We are lucky my Dad could help us. There’s nothing wrong with getting help of course, though it can be challenging to accept. We tried once to tell my Dad we’d pay him back, and he refused. I know when he makes up his mind, he makes it up. So we stopped trying to pay him back.

When he saw these panels (I showed them to him before posting, the fact check and give him a heads up) he sent me a message. Here’s part of it: “There’s a lot of thing I have done to help as I try to do as much as I can and say yes as much as I can. I’m thankful I could help you guys out with your first house and it was special that you closed on my birthday. I’ll always try to help you all until I can’t. Love you guys.”

Best Dad ever, am I right?

BEHIND THE SCENES:

For this comic I decided to start a bit of a comic bible for us as characters.
I created it in procreate and set a color palette for each of us.
I picked an outfit we will always wear (until I draw comics of cold weather times, and then I may just turn short sleeves into long sleeves) and decided to put a message that is near and dear to my heart on my t-shirt (did you see it?).

I also made sure to use some background photos for backgrounds.
I recently watched a webinar with @biancaxunise where she said it’s totally fine to use photos as backgrounds. I really like the look of doing that, so I think I’m going to keep doing it!

This was really fun and I want to make some more comics of stories from our family!
