Reading Roundup 2013 week 2

Whew!
So I knew after last week’s 64,
I was going to have to slow down, and slow down I did!

Reading last week
This past week, we only read 11 books.
And I was back to work.
Anyone see a connection there?
But seriously, I do love my job, so it’s ok.

Only one picture book this week. That was weird.
I took a look at my to-read bin
and noticed I had A LOT of chapter books.

So I decided to tackle those this week.
Then when I went to the library I found some Squish graphic novels, so I snatched those up.

I won’t do a top ten this week, then, only a top three.

Every Day by David Levithan. It’s such an interesting concept and this book really makes you think. I loved reading it and read it straight through, pausing only to work and sleep.

George and Martha by James Marshall. Did I read this when I was younger? I’m not sure. I know I love it now though. I kind of wanted to find a George, though, I think I’m a better George than Martha!

Squish, The Power of the Parasite. I love graphic novels and this one touches on bullying a little bit, but in a light way. I thought it was handled well, and it’s just hilarious to think of an amoeba at a summer camp.

Ok and I added a fourth one:

Olivia Bean, Trivia Queen by Donna Gephart. Olivia loves trivia and jeopardy and she has an interesting family situation. This story feels everyday an special at the same time. I loved it.

So here’s what we read.

Also, I’ve discovered a new library system, since I have 42 books out as of right this moment!
I have a inbox and an outbox for my library books!

Currently, the outbox looks like this:

Going out! Books to be returned (today hopefully!)
Going out! Books to be returned (today hopefully!)

And the inbox looks like this,

Incoming! Books still to be read!
Incoming! Books still to be read!

My library puts stickers on the newer books.
I have to say, I feel very on top of my game when I take out a whole stack of new books.
A few times this week I was carrying around ones that JUST added in January.
I felt really special.

I’m also excited because I got an i-phone recently.
Singe Singe is excited; he knows this means more pictures of him!

I don’t use it for that much stuff,
except for listening to Brain Burps about Books and for the goodreads app.

In the goodreads app, you can scan the ISBN of a book
and add it as read, or to-read.
I have used this a bunch already.

And I just used the Brain Burps App
to star and download the latest episode,
featuring Eric VanRaepenbusch!

I felt really cool the whole time I was listening.
I kept thinking, “I know that guy!”
It was awesome to hear what Eric actually sounded like, after just getting his voice from reading his blog and comments here about what he was reading during 31 in 31.

If you haven’t listened to the episode, you have to!

Eric’s a Pinterest Pro, and overall awesome in the episode. I loved all the talking about the Three Ghost Friends, where the story idea came from (that part is very sweet) and how he used to illustrate his name to get children to pronounce it the right way!

Ok, time to go to the post office.
Also, what is everyone reading?

Enthusiastically yours,
KE and Singe Singe

    1. Thanks Katie!
I plan on doing an entire post on Brain Burps…I listen to it A LOT!
I’ll make sure to link to your site a ton so you see it too 🙂

  1. I see a book by Sachar. Did you read Holes? It’s the only book I read from him but I definitely want to read more. He’s brilliant.

My six-year old loves Squish (we have the first 4 books). I’ve never read them with him but he says they’re very funny so I believe him.

  2. It may have been only 11 books but there are few that I want to read — (hint, hint: SQUISH books). GEORGE AND MARTHA could be read at least once a week, don’t you think!

What a surprise to see my name in your post too! Ha! Very cool. Thanks for mentioning my appearance on Katie’s show and the Three Ghost Friends!!

I am off to read to my kiddos before bed — they are yelling at me…gotta go!

  3. I’m jealous of all your reading time! I’ve been busy writing for a project. Thanks for sharing your list.
