Ok, it’s been a week since the conference…

Whew.
I know.
And now I’m on a completely different coast.
So, what have I been up to?
Well, right now, I’m going this:

Yup, doing it.

I picked up a lot of cards at the portfolio showcase and thought,
“What would I want someone to do if he or she picked up my card?”
confession: in my head I did not think he or she. I thought they. But he or she is correct, so I’m using it!

I answered my own questions, as writers often do.
So here’s what I’m writing to each artist:

-what attracted me to their card and portfolio
-what I like about their style
-what I like about their website
-my favorites among their art
-a little bit about me
-anything else I want to add.

So that’s what I’m doing.
I have about 50 cards so it may take a while, but I have already found some great blogs and websites after the first few cards.
And you never know where a connection may take you.
There are more things to do though.
Here’s my to-do list:

do it!

But hey, let’s not forget all the things I did do!
Here they are too!

Hand and foot is a game I learned through a chance encounter with a card-playing family in a hotel once. My family has adopted it, and we play it all the time now.
Oh man. Considering I only slept about 4 hours each night of the conference, then stayed up to play pirate mini golf on my last night in California, THEN arrived in NY at 1 am just to have another three hours in the car…well, you get the point. I’m so tired I’m still using run-on sentences. But I’m getting better.
This has been a significant change and a lot of work, but worth it, I think.
YES! Love shopping! My sister is quite the fashionista. Usually we like the same things, just in different colors. We also ran into some friends, some AWESOME friends at the mall. It’s also the first time I’ve been to the mall, any mall, in a really long time. Makes me feel younger just saying it.
I bought Write or die. It’s really making me write. My sound if I stop writing is babies crying. That does it every time!
Great time hanging out with my mom and finding poems, drawings, and other shenanigans from 6th grade and younger! Excited to scan some of these soon and just have them around as inspiration and a reminder of who little Kathy Ellen was!

Whew.
Well, you saw that to do list!
Getting to work.
Just wanted to keep you updated!

p.s. Singe Singe has a plan for some kind of conferency post. And yes, he invented the word conferency.

peace, love, and children’s books!
Kathy Ellen
