It’s Monday! What are we reading?

We read a lot this week, I have to warn you!
But first, don’t forget who’s behind all of this!

Mon Reading Button PB to YA
It’s really fun.
You can see what we’ve been reading here, and what other people have been reading too.
What an awesome way to share books!
Find out more about it here!

Here we go:
Reading last week

Wildwood
Wildwood

First, we’ve had Wildwood for a while.
We heard many good things and bought it when we saw it at a used bookstore.
This guy is more than 500 pages long!

More than one time during the week we declined doing social things so we could read it!
We really loved all the magical creatures,
the brother and sister strong connection,
and the overall adventure.
Now we can’t wait to read the next one!

We met Lois Lowry a while ago (October I think...) and we promise, a blogpost WILL BE coming! We met her for the release of Son, so we had to re-read the other books. Only, we've been a little busy, so we just go to it. What is NOT to love about the Giver?
The Giver

We met Lois Lowry a while ago (October I think…) and we promise, a blogpost WILL BE coming!
We met her for the release of Son,
so we had to re-read the other books.
Only, we’ve been a little busy, so we just go to it.
What is NOT to love about the Giver?
I’ll tell you, NOTHING.
Well, Singe Singe would have liked to see more monkeys.
But other than that….

Gathering Blue
Gathering Blue

Second book in the “Times and characters related to the Giver” series.
I think it’s just called The Giver Series, but hey, let’s get creative!
We really liked the character of Kira in this one. A strong girl, that’s for sure!
And Matty, we just loved him too.
We read through this one fast because we had to get to the next one….

Messenger
Messenger

And it was SOOO good!
Riveting, magical, heartbreaking.
And Jonah’s in this one too!
I think we read this straight through in one night, it was THAT GOOD.

Son
Son

And we have the fanciest version of this one, because we got it shortly after it came out!
We loved the parallel stories in this one, and all the backstory about Gabe’s mother.
It was like going back to The Giver with a fresh pair of eyes.
We really enjoyed seeing Jonah’s family from the outside view of Claire.
And what a touching story about mother and son…

Lunch Lady
Lunch Lady

And now for some lighter and really funny fare….
A school I was at this week had a big bookfair in their multipurpose room, so I was in a classroom.
When a teacher told me that, I said I approved and didn’t mind being squished if it was for books!

Naturally ,I headed down there.
And COULD NOT avoid the graphic novel section.
We LOVED this one.
How funny!
How clever!
Especially the fun weapons Lunch Lady gets to use.
Now we want them all!

Babymouse for President
Babymouse for President

We’ve read some Babymouse before.
But never owned one.
So we went with the newest.
Singe Singe had a photoshoot with a presidential podium, so he was very intrigued.
We flew through it.
The drama!
The posters!
The campaign promises and cupcakes!
Babymouse never disappoints.
This one was so clever and on target.

Frankly Frannie
Frankly Frannie

I was looking for some easy readers,
since I suspect one that I wrote parts of during NaNoWriMo is going to be too wordy.
This one was promising.
We thought the character was GREAT.
And, told in first person, like mine will be.
We loved the illustrations throughout.
And we even liked the made-up words.
But sometimes they got a little old.
But overall we liked it!

Babar!
Babar!

We plucked this one off the shelf because it was recently Jean De Brunoff’s birthday.
Missed it?
Check out this AWESOME blogpost by our friend Eric.
We watched the attached video.
Singe Singe was very excited because it was in French.
This book is too, so we love reading it.
Babar will never get old, mark my words.

Large Print
Large Print

Last one, from the Unshelved library,
a collection of comics featuring librarian woes and funny moments!
We have more.
We have the WHOLE set.
So you’ll be seeing more soon.

Reading this week
Haven’t really decided yet!
This week is a full week of work, and our capoeira teacher is in Brazil for a bit,
so I’m going from assistant to head teacher for the under 8 crowd.

Fun, but busy.
We’ll have to take a look at our shelves.

What are you reading?
What should we read?

Until next time, we’re enthusiastically yours!

  1. Yowza! You were busy. My daughter was looking over my shoulder as I read this post and was happy to see BabyMouse and Lunch Lady! I can remember the first time I read THE GIVER! Love that book!

Thank you so much for mentioning my blog post too!

    1. Your blog post was amazing, Eric!
I am glad your family got to have such a fun Babar time!

Glad your daughter approves…this week I was traveling a bit for work and read a bunch while on the plane.

Yes, the Giver. What is not to love?

  2. My goodness! I wish I could say I’ve read as much this week, but I’ve barely had time to read at all. I read 5 PBs and about 4 pages of Breathe – a YA novel I just started – it’s good so far! I haven’t read everything on your list, but I grew up with Babar, and I LOVED The Giver!

    1. Hey 5 PBs is good Susanna, for barely time to read at all.
I think sometimes I should be doing other things, but I CAN’T HELP wanting to read so much.

I think I’ll start putting what I’m working on for my writing (very vague or course) to remind myself that I’m a writer too, and not just a reader.

By the way, an idea that came from one of your prompts (the one about collecting things? I wrote about collecting tea cups) started a chapter book that I wrote almost 10,000 words of for NaNoWriMo!

So thanks for the awesome prompt!!
Keep up the good work 🙂
