31 in 31 Day 24: Flora and the Flamingo

31 in 31 picI am not a dancer,
but I do have a history with flamingos.
I ALWAYS loved the lawn ones when I lived in Northern NY.
My sister and I had an apartment together,
and I’d point them out whenever we’d be driving around anywhere.

So, on my birthday (probably 20th or 21st or something like that)
she decorated the door of my room and left me two lawn flamingos for a present.
My mom still has one, back in that same town of Plattsburgh, NY.
I have the other in my room.
It’s hanging out in a pot on top of a little closet I have,
and, at night,
the light hits it just right,
and I get a FANTASTIC flamingo shadow on the wall.

I’m guessing you know what book I’m talking about if I’m talking about flamingos, so here we go!

This isn't the whole spread, but just look at the joy here! I love that it folds

Likes:
The color. The pinks are spectacular!

The flaps. Talk about a dramatic reveal!

The facial expressions. I love how they tell the story!

You just know reading this book that there was so much attention paid to every detail, and it shows.
I’ve read this book with a child before like this:
I say, “There are no words in this book. You can be Flora or the Flamingo, and you’re going to make up what they say, and I’ll make up what the other one says.”

Learns:
Friendship stories never get old!
The format of the book can be a huge part of the story as well!

Ok, coming up tomorrow there’s a great post about meeting Molly Idle!
What did you read today?

See you tomorrow,
KE
