December Kidlit Tea Party

Hi everyone!
kidlit tea party

Kidlit Tea Party time!
Not sure what it is?

Last month, my goal was:
to win NaNoWriMo (that’s 50K words this month!)
to win PiBoIdMo (that’s 30 picture book ideas)
to do my revisions (I’m going to start revising my picture book under contract mid month)

And how did I do?
Winner-2014-Twitter-Profile
I wrote 54,000 words,
and won NaNoWriMo at The Night of Writing Dangerously!
That was epic!

I came up with 30 ideas for PiBoIdMo, so won there too!

And I did some edits of my picture book under contract,
as well as some for two others we’re working on getting into submittable shape.

So, YAY November!

I have to tell you though, 3,000 words a day was CRAZY.
And I finished with 8,000 words at the Night of Writing Dangerously.
I drew pictures and took pictures and will be sharing a post on that soon.
It was, once again, a GREAT event.

I did get to read almost all of the PiBoIdMo posts,
but I plan on revisiting them in the new year,
since I feel like I didn’t devote as much time reading them as I would have liked.

This month,
my goal is simple.
I’m going to write or revise for 30 minutes a day,
or #WriteDaily30 if you’re on twitter.
It’s a challenge Linda Urban came up with.
Her post about it is here, mine is here.

So far, so good.
I’ve got A LOT of revision to do,
so I came up with this mantra to keep me going.

So, what are your goals for December?
Share them below for a chance to win a prize.
People who shared their goal for November, how did you do?
I’m buying your prize soon, with hopes of sending it out next week.

And Jackie and Chris, who set October goals,
I have NOT forgotten about you.
I just have a hard time getting to the post office.
I made you a little something,
and it’s coming your way soon.
Promise 🙂

Ok, Happy December everyone!
And, what are you working on? What are your goals for this month?
Share them below 🙂

  1. Happy December to you! And CONGRATULATIONS on achieving your amazing goals

My goals were to win PiBoIdMo (which I fell short on) and write 10,000 woods for my novel (which I DID do). I think many of those words will be revised away but I’m getting closer, bit by bit.

December goal? I want to fill up the holes (the TBD cards in Scrivener) in this draft. They don’t have to be pretty but they must be something.

And ENJOY THE HECK OUT OF CHRISTMAS. Yeah!

  2. You’re so amazing! Gosh, that is SO MUCH WORK. I’m in awe.

For November, my goals were to find my rhythm and to read Maggie Stiefvater’s latest Raven Boys book.

I read Maggie’s book (which was delicious), along with many others (yay!). Have I found my rhythm? … I THINK so. Maybe. Not sure. I switched story ideas, so now I’m trying to get to know these new characters, but I spent all of last week holed up in a condo, trying to learn more about them. I wrote about 12k words, so that’s good, I guess. I’m still sort of a mess.

December goals: I’m really going to try to write 1k words a day. I’m going to TRY SO HARD.

  3. Winner Winner Chicken Dinner! You are a rock star, Kathy Ellen! Wow!! That is a lot of writing. You are amazing and awesome!

I am a bit embarrassed about how I fell short, and thus why I am posting this only now. For November, my goals were to read 20 books, blog 30 book reviews (NaBloPoMo), and write those 2 darn pages already! As it is also Thanksgiving this month (in the US), I plan to send out 27 notes to people thanking them (writing is writing). I am also hosting Thanksgiving dinner for all of us who don’t have family/family nearby to celebrate with, so I will be busy, as I always forget how much work is involved.

I did read a lot in November. I think I read more than 20 books in November, and am closing quickly in on 200 books for the year. But I didn’t write much of anything. I think I got one review done, and that was it. I even nixed the thankful note project although I went out and bought the paper and such.

Of course, I did manage to cook Thanksgiving dinner. And yes, I forgot how much work and planning goes into it. We only hosted 5 others, but there were moments that made it all worth it.

For December, which feels like it is flying by, my goals are to reach 200 books read for the year. I’d also like to write at least 2 more reviews on the Cow’s Blog, and write those 2 pages before the year ends. I just have to do it. (Oh, and of course, the annual Christmas card project.)

Thankfully, I had lunch with a couple (that came into our lives through some very random acts and the help of Flickr, FourSquare and CES)who reminded me that I am a storyteller, and a good one at that. I need to remember that most of all.

I also need to remember that the holidays are a very emotional time for me, and that I will be okay.
