22,23: Bread and Jam belongs to Emily

Reading Journal is back!
Well, he really hasn’t gone anywhere, but he’s not been the best at uploading himself up here.
Until I get that technology worked out, it falls to me, but I’m getting better. The first book on this page I remember reading when I was younger (and I was so convinced that Francis was a boy…I was so confused…) and the second one I just came across in the library and was drawn in by the cover.

Books 22 and 23 are:
Bread and Jam for Francis by Russell Hoban, pictures by Lillian Hoban
and
That rabbit belongs to Emily Brown by Cressida Cowell, illustrated by Neal Layton

Bread and Jam that rabbit...sounds like some kind of punishment!

Fun with Francis:

  • talk to your picky eater about what he or she would love to eat all the time, like Francis and jam.
  • pack a lunch for Francis, or pack one like hers for your little badger!
  • Write up your own rhymes about jams! Talk about why Francis’s rhymes change throughout the book.

Emily Brown stuff:

  • Where does your stuffed animal go on adventures?
  • How would you feel if it got taken away?
  • Would you be tempted to trade your favorite? Why or why not?
  • Get out some art supplies and draw pictures in the style of the illustrations in this book. They’re so cool!

Alright, off to update the good reads page. Reading journal keeps plugging away (he’s up to 110 books now) and is branching out, recently reading a lot of poetry! Get excited!

More books coming!

until next time, read and write on!
