49 and 50: Hokey Pokey Sheila Rae

The first book is one is one I just found on the shelf, clearing out all the books I could find on this author. I love the fun language she works into her books! They are really fun to read aloud. The second book is by an author that I love too. His mice are way better than mine, but I tried at least!

Reading Journal books 49 and 50 are:
Hokey Pokey: Another prickly love story by Lisa Wheeler, illustrations by Janie Bynum
and
Sheila Rae, the Brave by Kevin Henkes

Hokey the brave

Hokey Fun:

  • Think of people you know who may dance a certain way. Ask them to teach you to dance!
  • Have a dance party! (Like you need an excuse to do that anyway??)

Sheila Rae fun:

  • What is brave? Talk about things that are scary.
  • Can you help someone else be brave? How would you do that?
  • Practice walking backwards!
  • Look for Louise in the pictures when Sheila Rae is out on her own!

Next up, a chapter book, and an author who is new to Reading Journal but is not new to winning Caldecott awards!

until next time, read and write on!
