Talk about Books: Mr. Penumbra’s 24 hour bookstore

UnknownClay is out of a job, and not at a good time either.
Seems everyone in San Francisco is out of a job, and wants one in the tech industry.
This wasn’t how life after college was supposed to be!
So when he sees a “Help Wanted” sign in a bookstore,
he decides to go for it.

Soon after,
Clay works the overnight shift at Mr. Penumbra’s 24 hour bookstore.
The thing is, hardly ANYONE comes in.
Unless you count the sort of weird people who come in,
looking for a novel in the “WAY BACK”-the books Clay’s not supposed to read.

Mr. Penumbra counts them.
He wants Clay to keep all the details of their visits written in a logbook too.
It doesn’t take Clay long to figure out there’s something else going on here.
Something that may just be the coolest thing he’ll ever be a part of.

With the help of a cute Google girl,
and his childhood best friend who made his money creating software to create realistic digital…well, I won’t tell you, but it’s funny!…Clay sets out to try and crack the mystery of Mr. Penumbra’s bookstore.

Will he do it?
What will he find?
And what DOES that software create?

You’ll have to read Robin Sloan‘s Mr. Penumbra’s 24 hour Bookstore to find out.

I LOVED this book.
Clay is a great character, as is Mr. Penumbra. He’s like the older friendly gentleman you’ve always wanted to be friends with and learn from. The mystery and adventure will keep you turning the pages. And the bookstore…I wish I could go there. I’ve worked in a few, and one in particular that reminded me of this one. You’ll really enjoy this book, I promise.
